I have no idea how the club is currently doing re: the above - hopefully well - but I do have some concerns in this regard. We ended the season with an extended period of poor results and form - we announced the departure of a number of players including a few who were very popular with the fans (no blame apportioned to anyone for this) - we have, to date, announced not the most inspiring list of pre-season friendlies (no disrespect meant to the clubs concerned - or criticism of the club for this as 'cost' is clearly a key factor here). If the current posts on this board and news on the club website are anything to go by, we 'appear' to be a club on a bit of a Summer siesta.
The season has just finished for most clubs - so it is only natural that things will go relatively quiet for a while for most clubs. However, given in particular the way the end of season finished for us, I think that there would be benefit in the club seeking to drive/maintain some positive momentum between now and the start of pre-season - if only to help with commercial activities like season ticket sales - to the extent that this is possible. I'm sure that there is a great deal going on behind the scenes at the moment - but perhaps providing a bit more visibility on some of this activity might be a good thing? After a well earned break, perhaps Matt could talk to us about some of the departures and his thoughts for next season (not expecting any specifics on new signings etc. until the Summer window opens)? An update from Adrian on what is going to be going on off the pitch during the Summer? Announcements of any current players extending their contracts?
If this post comes across as a bit 'negative' and/or critical of the club - it is not meant to be. I was just thinking that if last season was my first season supporting Sutton (as opposed to my 55th), would I feel sufficiently motivated to come back next season - and if not, is there something more that the club could do which might motivate me to do so. Just thinking aloud really. Apologies in advance to anyone who might take offence to this post and/or consider it a criticism of them. I hope that all associated with Sutton United - players, officials and supporters - enjoy the Summer - and all return next season refreshed and ready to do battle with 'the Wrexham Galacticos' and others.
