The arrival of Steve Arnold (welcome, Steve) as a goalkeeper gives me an excuse to start a thread that might, perhaps, help fill the gaps between now and the start of the football.
The challenge is to name an all-time Sutton United team for each letter of the alphabet. OK, there will be a few challenges in that, so for pragmatic reasons we can group E and F, I J & K, O & Q, and U V X Y & Z (even then, I'm not sure we will get a full eleven).
Some letters will be easy, others less straightforward and as I haven't yet tried this for every letter we might be missing a goalkeeper or two. Only two conditions, you must use a recognised formation (442, 433, 352 etc) and players should be in roughly their 'proper' position. (loan players count)
I will kick-off with the A Team, and despite Steve's imminent arrival he is not officially our player yet so I have opted for a previous custodian.
4-3-3 Kenny Addai Kevin Amankwah, Darren Anderson, Dave Arch, Dante Alighieri David Ajiboye, Noel Ashford, Eddie Akuamoah Nassim Akrour, Carey Anderson, Francis Awaritife

Then we can debate which of the teams is best....and so it goes on until August 5th can't come soon enough. I blame the hot weather.

I think the Bs and Cs are spoilt for choice, so I'm looking forward to seeing some teams, but it's harder to find the Ds - although I think it is actually quite a strong XI
4-4-2
Tommy Dunn Simon Downer, John Delaney, Dave Dyer, Elliot Dell Roarie Deacon, Phil Dawson, Graham Dennis, Jimmy Dack Lennie Dennis, Peter Drabwell

Sounds like a programme feature (tweaking and stealing the idea) but perhaps one or two players per programme - really deep focus. Twist on what Mark F has done before...
Anyone want to volunteer?
