Palace Women will be moving to a new home for the start of the 2023/24 FA Women’s Championship, playing their matches at Sutton United’s VBS Community Stadium. The move signals a new era for Palace Women, who secured back-to-back top five league finishes, and recently appointed Grace Williams as the club’s new Head of Women’s Football to lead a restructuring programme, with Laura Kaminski joining as the new head coach.
The FA Women’s Championship kicks off on 26th August and Palace Women’s first home match will be a 14:00 BST kick-off on Sunday, 27th August. Ticketing information will be announced shortly.
Crystal Palace has a strong fanbase in Sutton and Sutton United’s historic Gander Green Lane ground, which hosted its first match in 1912, has a capacity of more than 5,000. Sutton United, currently in League Two of the EFL, have played at the venue continuously since 1919.
Palace Women will be leaving Hayes Lane, home of National League Club Bromley FC, where they have played their home matches since 2014. Selhurst Park has also hosted Palace Women, attracting a record-breaking attendance for the league match against Southampton last September, and two matches will be played there in the coming season.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “This is an exciting new start for Palace Women, playing at a historic, local stadium that will be familiar to many of our supporters, and we hope to attract fresh support for the club. We are hugely grateful for Bromley FC’s long-standing support for Palace Women and we would like to thank them for their hospitality over many years, the move is in large part driven by the WSL requirement for a grass pitch."
Sutton United vice-chairman Adrian Barry said: “We are delighted to welcome Crystal Palace Women to the VBS and look forward to furthering the extremely strong relationship the clubs have always enjoyed. Our discussions with them over the summer have been extremely positive and collaborative, leading to what we're sure will be a mutually beneficial partnership.

In a comment from Sallycat about the programme she says, "I know the pitch won't allow the (Sutton) women to play at home on the same weekend as the men."
Strange, because the Palace Women are not reckoned to wear the pitch out by adding their matches to Sutton Men and Women. Or are they playing Quiddich - broomsticks to remain airborne at all times?

As a fan of our womens team this seems odd to me. Last season it seemed as if when the men played on Saturday, or were due to play at home on Tuesday, or it rained or was raining or looked like it might rain, the women had to play at South Park. I think they made more appearances at the VBS for photo shoots for various events than they did actually on the pitch.
I'll be interested to see how this pans out but fear the worst for them. They seemed to be very under resourced last season which seemed odd after the previous seasons title winning performance.

The other side of the coin is a) The pitch has been totally replaced in the close season, and I believe is of a better standard than the one we had to rush in after the 3G went b) Palace women will only play 9 league game here all season (max 2 per month but usually 1) c) This is going to bring in cash
It's certainly miles better than having SCR playing on our grass pitch, as was the case in our first season back on grass.

"They seemed to be very under resourced last season which seemed odd after the previous seasons title winning performance."
There were off-field factors at play last summer, nothing at all to do with football or the club, that affected our preparations. It was also a significant step up in terms of the quality across the league. This year Will has been very active in looking to reinforce the first team squad, and if I can work out how to use the new online platform that the FA has introduced I have at least nine new players to register for this season.

"They seemed to be very under resourced last season which seemed odd after the previous seasons title winning performance."There were off-field factors at play last summer, nothing at all to do with football or the club, that affected our preparations. It was also a significant step up in terms of the quality across the league. This year Will has been very active in looking to reinforce the first team squad, and if I can work out how to use the new online platform that the FA has introduced I have at least nine new players to register for this season. Dave f: New online FA platform. A tip for registering players. After <add player> do not use the first tab <invitation by email>,it is OK when the player responds promptly but a hold up when she doesn't. Instead use the second tab <Search FA Players> most players joining Sutton women will have a FAN, unless they have come directly from abroad. When asked for Consent use <have off-line consent> you probably do have a signed form from the player. Check that the data imported for the player includes Full street address, email address, mobile phone number and if needed a photo. If you have more than one team e.g. first and reserves that you wish to assign the player to this season you may need to assign them in two operations. If you have submitted the player correctly the box should show <pending league>. If it shows <awaiting action> then one of the requirements will be flagged. This is likely to be where you have used the <invitation by email>and the player has not responded. However, you can change the consent required to off-line consent to get round it.

No idea what that means Pinewalker but as Andy says it will generate more money for us.

The match – Palace’s first at their new home of the VBS Community Stadium – has seen kick-off delayed to 14:30 BST due to unforeseen circumstances. For clarification - the unforeseen circumstances were nothing operationally to do with the stadium, etc like has been seen in Premier League fixtures in the the first couple of weeks of the season - we were informed that the Reading kit van broke down and they had to wait to get a replacement - the match referee deciding to move kick-off back by 30 minutes. Hopefully the delay did not inconvenience those in attendance and a fair few recognisable Sutton season ticket holders were evident in the crowd of 782 today that could not make the trip to Ebbsfleet to support our women today. Palace Women are next home at VBS Community Stadium on 10th September (noon kick-off) vs Durham Women - our Sutton United Ladies next home fixture is on 17th September against Ashford United

There wasn’t an announcement of the delay over the PA system as I was wondering at 2pm why the players were still warming up.
I looked on my phone and found out.
Probably not this year but finishing the match at 1640 or 4.40pm must be a record.
