Not one for starting match threads but according to Shots' forum, Coby Rowe is injured while another of their centre backs is also out. He played in three of our PSF.

I believe their other injured centre back is Christian Maghoma, previously at Eastleigh.
How many regular central defenders will be fit to play in today's game? Here's hoping that at least one of Ben Goodliffe and Omar Sowunmi is back.

All we need is a centre half, a left half and a right half.

I believe their other injured centre back is Christian Maghoma, previously at Eastleigh. Featured for us in our first three friendlies - possibly one that got away as he looked useful. Hoping we can field a side that resembles a team that could be good to go next Saturday.

All we need is a centre half, a left half and a right half. Surely we want a team that’s more than the sum of the parts? 🤔

After today's game Matt and Co.have a lot to do this next week before next Saturday. At times we looked like the national side and Aldershot were the league team. Only one player stood out and that was Patrick. Sertainly looking for vast improvement.

Another disappointing performance today and also bit worrying for next week. Think it’s going to take a while to get going, so will just have to hope that we are ready for next week. I’m going into that game with not much hope of us getting anything from it, but one game does not make a season. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

We were a bit better than against Woking, with improved movement in midfield, but we lost again, Jack Rose once more the busier keeper. He pulled off three great saves in the first half, including one from a close-range follow-up after an initial strike had come back off a post.
It was good to have Sowunmi back, but we badly missed Ben Goodliffe, and I fear the worst if he's not back for Notts County. His replacement, academy graduate Jack Taylor, has much promise, but was brushed aside too easily for the Aldershot goal. He did at least play the 90 minutes, finishing alongside Craig Dundas, some 24 years his senior!
I agree that Omari Patrick was our brightest player. Coley and Kashket made a few promising runs that came to nothing. Smith headed a decent chance wide.
Overall, this Sutton team doesn't quite look the sum of its parts. Let's hope things fall into place next Saturday.

Certainly not gone swimmingly well so far. Plenty going in undercooked. It’ll be a different place next week though and hopefully we have enough experience to at least make it difficult for Notts County once the competitive juices are flowing. Notts County seem in good shape and McGoldrick could prove signing of the season - we’ll start 2nd favourites for this one!

I think today confirmed where we are, in no way ready to start a league campaign, so August is going to be difficult. At the moment we are playing Nat Sth football, although there are some nuggets of optimism, I thought, Coley , Patrick, Kashket look although they are starting to form a good relationship. We desperately need Ben back, as others have said, and need to establish a spine through the team and build from there.
Any points we pick up in our first 2 or 3 games will be a bonus as far as I can see, not negative just realistic, Rome wasn't built in a day.

There is one positive to be taken from this shambles of a pre-season - it has not happened to a settled side.
Matt clearly intended to ship out many of last season's stalwarts in favour of improvements, and unfortunately for him two of the better players he would have liked to keep have been lured away. That is a fact of life when you are in the larger shop window of L2 compared with the Conference, and operating on a smaller budget.
We have signed some players who are proven goal scorers, but the ink is barely dry on their contracts, and there are too many changes at once for them to develop a team understanding. The Woking game proved to the unlucky stand-ins as well as the spectators that moving to central defence from elsewhere on the pitch is more difficult than they think. Standing in space rather than standing right next to opponents was an elementary mistake. So we can look forward to the attack forging an understanding, and to the return of experienced central defenders. The concern about the latter is that they may be prone to injury rather than unlucky all at once.

Its hard to pick holes when we have an academy player in central defence and while we are 1-0 down we bring on a 42 year old fitness coach to replace Eastmond.(No offence Dundas).
But the disjoined nature of the team right now does look a slight worry. Matt makes a valid point that he is unable to research the oppositions play, but the same goes for them, and you would expect us to show more moments than we are.
But friendlies are not what brings you points. If we can get a draw next week I will be very pleased, from there I am sure this team can keep improving.
No Loans for us yet. I am sure 1 or 2 will come in.

Not a very encouraging team performance but Patrick looked promising in the 1st half

Just seen the highlights: We do look much better going forward with more width to our game and more shots on goal. Could have had three goals with Smith missing a good chance that he really should have scored. So going forward I’m not too worried about, Its at the back where I’m a bit concerned because we were to open there. We really do need Goodliffe back there, so the sooner he’s back the better. So let’s all hope that we can get something out of the game next week, won’t be easy at all, but I’m sure Matt will have them up for it. ⚽️⚽️⚽️
