I agree with banjo we must hope Ben Goodliffe recovers very quickly to match fitness, but not just him , L John S Hart R Jackson and J Barden as well. Matt and his team will know how confident he can be upon their individual recovery to match fitness. Rightly supporters are not privy. Looking from the grandstand yesterday and with the adage " a strong defence is the foundation to a successful team" in mind, I hope for the immediate future some extra focus is given to strengthening our defensive options, after all as it stands we have 5 forwards for the front two positions and upto end of August to recruit more. The first month's fixtures are not ones for inexpericed defenders indeed are any of our league fixtures?

Sutton United are never going to be a team full of the most technically gifted players in EFL2. Those players cost the sort of money that we as a club just don’t have. Consequently, we try to compensate by being a) better organised than our opposition and b) fitter than our opposition. With such a big change in playing personnel during the Summer, it is going to take time to become as organised as we want to be. Training as hard as I am sure we have been during preseason in order to build up the required level of fitness, some players will pick up injuries and others will almost certainly be tired going into preseason friendly matches. If you listen to Matt’s interviews, he put our poor form at the start of last season down to easing up on training through fear that more players might pick up injuries – and he made it pretty clear that he had learned from that mistake and would not repeat it. So if we go into the game against Notts County missing a couple of players through injury, not yet at peak fitness levels and a little disorganised relative to where Matt would like us to be, don’t be too surprised or disheartened. This is just Sutton United doing what they have to do in the short-term to get to where they want/need to be in the longer term.
