In todays Daily Mail, a small paragraph with this headline in their “weekend in sixty seconds” column.
“Since joining League Two in 2021, no side has had more first half red cards in the top four tiers of English football than Sutton (Six).

Yes I read that too.
Is it naivety, stupidity or are the referees picking on us?

Yes I read that too. Is it naivety, stupidity or are the referees picking on us? Back in our Conference days I listened to a pre-match chat over their tea by the Ref and his other officials, because I was sitting in the VP room where they were. A young linesman said to the experienced ref. "I hear Sutton are a dirty side - are there any players in particular to watch out for?" If that mindset is common - then the answer to your query about referees picking on Sutton, is that they are expecting to see serious foul play and will not give our players any benefit of the doubt.

Since coming to the EFL we have had 9 reds in total. As mentioned, 6 in first half (Richie was 45+2 so pretty much on half time).
Opponents have 13 reds in the same time with 4 in the first half.
Interestingly..? Maybe not - two of the first half reds have been against Rochdale (Bennett & House)

Is it naivety, stupidity or are the referees picking on us? Bennett v Rochdale (away) 45+2’ Eastmond v Newport County (away) 34’ Bugiel v Stockport County (away) 3’ Eastmond v Hartlepool (away) 37’ House v Rochdale (away) 29’ Smith v Barrow (away) 13’ Surely not just a coincidence that all 6 occurrences were away from home with 5 of the 6 ‘oop North.. Who were the other 3 sending offs to take us to 9 overall?

Maybe the officials pick on us because our players refuse to "take the knee."

Maybe they don't pick on us at all? Seems the most plausible answer to me.
Someone has to have the most. And someone has to have the least. Doesn't necessarily mean anything in particular.
And they don't "refuse to take the knee." They decided as a collective to show their support in a different way.
