After our disasterous pre-season I looked at our first four fixtures and wondered if we'd pick up a point. Well we have three so that's a success in my book. Anybody fancy being a Doncaster Rovers fan?

Dreadful and the worst player in our team remained on the pitch for the whole match. Matt must have watched a different game to me! That baffled me as well. I remember Lee Angol from previous years as a good target man, but no sign of that talent remaining today.

I thought any point we picked up in August would be a bonus, but with such a positive start you always hope for more. The loss of Harry Smith last week followed by the loss of Sowunmi today really weakened us. All 3 goals were after he went off.

Early days. Need some time for players to bed in and think we’ll be a different team with Smith. From pre season it was pretty clear we were 2 or 3 weeks behind where we’d want to be prep wise. We’ve played some good sides to date and I think it’ll help in the long run as it will give us a little kick. Notts C probably gave us a bit of a false picture. We’ll be ok. Still need more in wide areas as Coley and Patrick can’t play all the time.

Worst performance and result of the Gray era? I think so.
If not for several last ditch tackles and clearances we would've been 3-0 down at half time. AFCW out-Suttoned us from first whistle to last, and they were three goals better than us. We had all the guile and finesse of Harvey Weinstein after six pints of Stella.
Nobody is questioning the signings we've made this summer, but undoubtedly, we've gone backwards tactically since last season. How have we become dependent on one player (Smith) after 2.2 games. Last season we still tried to play it through sides at times, but now we've become staunch long ball. Lost count how many hoofs have gone hopelessly to Kashmett in the past two games, and the long throw routine wasn't working with half of the two-towers, let alone none. TRY. SOMETHING. ELSE!
At what point after Tuesday did Gray think Angol and Kashmett had the makings of a decent partnership? They do not work well together. Angol is not capable of playing that harrying, destructive withdrawn striker role any more than Kashmett is capable of playing target man. Dare I say it, but we missed Omar today. Worked his socks off for AFCW.
If Gray does not succeed at a higher level it will be down to his dunderheaded refusal to look at anything beyond plan A. The available squad post-Barrow is SCREAMING 4-3-3. Clay/Easty/Harry in the centre, Angol up top (where people say he played very well against Barrow), Patrick/Coley wide with Kashmett as impact, or thereabouts. Nothing on the bench this past 2 games which is going to help us chase a game.
Yes, there are worse sides in this league. Yes, we've only played sides currently in the top 9. But we've got steadily worse since Aug 4 and our football has been utter drivel the past two games. I'm almost glad we didn't scrape an undeserved point today as surely Gray has to try something different on Saturday for Smith's 3rd game out.
Minor positive was Coley had a good game (most fouled player in one game for Sutton, surely?), but he spent so much of the game in the centre, it left us no outlet wide with Kizzi pinned back. Was that tactical, or the player drifting inside to impact the game? We'd have been so much more effective with one striker and three in the middle today. But assuming Gray will stick to 4-4-2, can we at least try playing some football again? If we're going to lose, I'd rather see us do it without failing to string more than five passes together.

Like many I've been drowning my sorrows. Lucky I can even type let alone spell a players name I'd never heard of before late July.

So if you haven’t ever heard of a player you just guess at the spelling of their name? I’m not a pedant but surely spelling a player name correctly isn’t too much to expect?

The most disappointing thing about this afternoon was losing 3-0 to our local rivals who in my opinion were nothing special .

Anyone notice how this is a big and important game now for Wimbledon? 😂

First things first. AFC Wimbledon are much improved on last season. On paper we are too - but, sadly, there was scant evidence of the latter out on the pitch today. I'd say that each Sutton performance this season has been poorer than the one before.
Of course the team has been largely rebuilt during the summer. But, taking into account the poor end to last season, we've won just one of our last fifteen league matches. That should be a cause for concern.
No Sutton player had an absolute stinker today but, equally, none emerged with any great credit. We were just lacklustre all over the pitch. Wimbledon could easily have been two or three up at half-time through open play, but it was from a second-half free kick then a corner that they went 2-0 ahead. For their second, the tallest outfield player on the pitch, who'd just come on, was seemingly left unmarked to head in at the far post.Basics.
Some of our substitutes showed glimmers of promise, but, by the stage they came on, the game was lost.
Time for a rethink before next Saturday's game at Newport, who have started the season better than many expected.

The one thing I am bemused at is the the 30 seconds rule aimed at stopping players faking injuries. Omar has obviously done something and needed the treatment however I think about three of their players went down with "injuries" causing the referee to blow up and then all get up pretty much straight away and Continue playing because no treatment. Should be if the injury causes the ref to stop play, they go off as well for the 30 seconds. Ruined some good build up play and the new dark arts!!!!

I would consider reducing the size of the squad, release 4 of our forwards (and maybe the loanee unless he is brilliant) to bring in two quality strikers.

There have been some really good comments on this thread regarding the squad, the way that we play etc. Do the team management ever read these comments?
And others on the forum.
