Evening guys, Blackpool fan in peace here....
Just wondering what your thoughts are on Kylian Kouassi? Am I right in thinking he was released on a free or did his contract expire and he decided to leave?
I (and as far as I'm aware most other Blackpool fans) am baffled if it was the former as the lad looks a quality player with massive potential, so much so I've found this forum and signed up to ask your thoughts.
He's now started 3 league games for us this season and we've won all 3, on his debut he came on as a sub in the EFL Pizza Cup or whatever it's called now and scored a well taken goal late on, he came on at half time against Liverpool U21s in the same competition midweek and scored a hat-trick. We won the first 2 league games he started, he was a revelation, strong, bullied defenders, linked up well in moves that created chances/goals and took his debut goal well.
He was then benched and we lost at home to Derby and drew away at Charlton, we missed his presence and physicality as he'd been a great outlet in previous games, linking up with Jordan Rhodes who constantly talks to him. He then scored the hat-trick midweek and started again today against Stevenage in the league where again he was a great outlet and occupied their giant defenders.
Would love to hear your opinions as we love him at the Seaside. All the best for the season, hope you manage to turn it around and stay up.

We definitely did not release him. We wanted him to stay. He would not sign a new contract, as is his right, so therefore we are entitled to compensation because he is still young.

FWIW I thought KK showed promise, especially with his physical presence, but lacked the finesse to progress far in the game. This season, I had envisaged him playing a part for us an impact sub with perhaps the odd start or two when others were injured or suspended. I must confess I didn't expect him to be doing as well for you as he now appears to be given his technical limitations - I guess his development is a credit to your coaching /management staff and partly due to playing with better players. Best wishes for the rest of the season.

Disappointed not to see him develop further but that’s football. Surprised he ended up in Blackpool and glad he’s doing well so far for you.

As a SU season ticket holder but a lifelong Huddersfield Town I have to say moving to Blackpool could be the absolute making of Kouassi. I’d anticipated that this was going to be his breakthrough season at SU and his departure definitely seemed to have been a big surprise and disappointment to Matt Gray and the club as a whole.
Now KK also has the chance to play alongside with and learn from Jordan Rhodes, THE best, calmest, coolest finisher I’ve ever seen. Far from the best striker (that’d be Frank Worthington), but the best finisher bar none. When JR first came to Town he played alongside a young lad we’d just signed from Gateshead, Lee Novak. He surprisingly got his chance straight away and became a big favourite and ended up having a decent career.
KK couldn’t wish for a better teacher than JR.

Appreciate all your replies, I hadn't realised he'd been offered a new contract so you will definitely have received a small compensation fee or possibly a percentage of a future sale.
Rhodes' experience will be a huge help to a young player like Kouassi, during games he's constantly talking to him, telling him where to be from goal kicks, throw ins etc and they've formed a really good partnership already with KK finding Rhodes with knock downs and flick ons. Although Neil Critchley has his limitations as a manager at times with substitutions and team selection, he's an excellent coach and does seem to improve most players and fortunately young Kylian seems like a decent lad who's willing to learn.
It would be great for the FA Cup God's to put together the 'Kouassi Derby' this afternoon 😂

It'll be both I would think and the more he scores the better as the fee won't be so small. I had high hopes this year for Kylian in a U's shirt. He was man of the match in his final game for us against Carlisle. I fully expect him to do well for you guys and as you and others have commented he will learn a lot from Jordan Rhodes.

Got a hamstring injury a while back. Anyone any idea if he's still injured or now frozen out/lost in the shuffle.
