Last season isn't relevant. We started this season two months ago with a lot of new players. Matt hasn't become a bad manager overnight and as long we are not cut adrift from the other teams at the bottom then he needs time to get it right. The team put in a really good shift today and if people can't see that then they are supporting the wrong team. After the Salford game you posted " Matt seems to have run out of ideas. A great shame but i think he has to go." I'm interested to know what has made you change your mind in the meantime. I agree that the players put in a good shift yesterday - but that was going forward (where TBH there aren't major issues) and the leaking of goals is as bad, if not worse, than ever. Maybe Gape will plug the gap because that really feels like the last roll of the dice? My take, FWIW, is that it's possible that Matt is a good manager when things are going well but is unable to turn things round when they are going badly for a significant period of time. Granted he did improve results and performances after a poor run at the start of his tenure but those were unique circumstances when it inevitably takes any manager a little time to make their mark.

Because since then i have seen an improvement in the way we are playing. Apart from Doncaster where we were dreadful i believe we are slowly turning a corner. Yesterday 2-0 down and the team fights back to 2-2 and could easily have taken the lead. Matt has now signed an experienced holding midfielder and sometimes just getting one or two decent players in can make a huge difference.

I'm hoping Gape will make the difference.

I do think the club need to make some kind of statement, or from some senior players. By now other clubs certainly would have replaced the manager, and this would at least give the fans something to buy into. As we just see the team lose week after week, it is affecting the revenue. You could say the "real" fans still turn up, but it becomes extremely depressing and I cant fault people for wanting to take a break from this, especially as it costs money.
That said, I think yesterday was an entertaining game and if we did not gift them and penalty and had closed that player down at the end, we would have at least got a point. And for me this game was not on Matt.

Another thread I wasn't going to post on but felt I had to.
We all know things haven't gone well since then so why does anyone need to rub it in?

Another thread I wasn't going to post on but felt I had to. We all know things haven't gone well since then so why does anyone need to rub it in? My original post was made after spending a few idle moments doing the analysis because I believe stats can be very informative and thought it would be of interest to compile the records that I did. (I was shocked to see how bad the record post-Crawley is.) Given the time spent (in reality, not much) I thought it might be of wider interest, especially in the context of the managerial debate, to post on here. It's evident that some find the stats of interest and relevant whilst others don't. I disagree with the latter but that's their prerogative and the Amber Planet would be very dull if we all agreed about everything. On reflection, I probably shouldn't have updated following Saturday's match because it added very little new. In my defence, I would add that my posts haven't been entirely negative, NB Harry Smith's goalscoring exploits - something that nobody has commented upon.

I’m not sure there can be any comparison between the end of last season and beginning of this. After the Crawley match we had 5 on the spin against all of the top sides, and played really well against Northampton especially and deserved something out of that. After that our hopes for playoffs we’re finished and there was no risk of relegation. Many players who had contracts ending in June and maybe already had offers being discussed obviously wouldn’t want to risk injury in that end period and started to shy away from tackles etc just coasting in to the close - it was quite obvious. This season is a completely different story with players new to the team and each other still building into a team - and not yet feeling the full bond as many of the new signings weren’t in before the team building exercise that Matt organised. Let’s hope that comes sooner rather than later and in the meantime give them support and encouragement to prove the supporters are also worth making an extra effort for over and above any other reasons.
