Thread for tomorrow nights last group game match at Charlton. A win whether it be in normal time or on pens will see us through tomorrow. There really should be some rotation tomorrow evening but not sure how many options are available to us - imagine Smith will play given his suspension next weekend.
First ever competitive meeting between the sides? Though I do remember a pre-season game against the Addicks in the early 00’s.

Looking forward to this match and a visit to a new ground. Might also turn out to be our very last match in this competition - ever.

Teams through in the Southern section
Group A - FGR, BHA U21 Group B - Crawley and either Us or Charlton Group C - Wycombe and AFC W Group D - Peterborough and either Spurs U21 or Colchester Group E - Portsmouth and Fulham Group F - Oxford and MK Dons group G - Reading and Arsenal U21 Group H - West Ham U21 and Bristol Rovers
As the preview states, if they follow the previous years draws, if we go through we'd get an away fixture against Portsmouth, Oxford/MK Dons/Reading. If we did and drew West Ham, we'd likely be at home too as U21 almost always play away even if drawn at home.
We've played 3 L1 sides this season, and in each of them we've stood toe to toe, even when our league form was at the bottom of the barrel. Infact the only side we've beaten away this season was a L1 side.
There's every reason we can go into tonight without fear.

We were pretty poor tonight, Charlton did not have to do too much to win that. Now it’s about staying up that is the most important thing, we just have to stay up, so the team really must knuckle down and get the results to keep us up and show why they are footballer.⚽️⚽️⚽️

We lacked any potency up front, and Jackson was rinsed all night long.
We still lack a midfield forcing the long ball.
I would say that any team we have had in the last decade would have caused Charlton more problems then we did tonight.

I thought we played quite well and was encouraged by our attacking performance. What was disappointing was Ben scoring another own goal and Harry losing the ball in midfield for the third goal and also giving away a penalty. Tope did well on the left and tracked back well and Omari had a really good game up front. Charlton of course were a class above us but we were away to a strong League one side without all our first team on the pitch.

You made my point for me, you had to go back nearly a decade to argue the point

For starters I said.
And you said a decade, not nine years.
Full of bollocks you are. Were you there tonight in person?

Can't you read, I said for starters?
Of course you weren't there. You're never physically there.

I also thought we played quite well, and were just beaten by a better side. If you make the odd mistake against a team like Charlton then you're likely to be punished.
We started on the front foot, but Charlton looked dangerous every time they broke on us; within the first fifteen minutes they'd struck a post, had a goal disallowed, then taken the lead. After that though we dug in and matched them for the rest of the half. We did have a let-off just before half-time when their penalty came back off a post, but it was the unfortunate Ben Goodliffe's second own goal in as many matches that took the tie beyond us. Harry Smith being replaced by Dundo for the last twenty minutes was an acknowledgement that the game was lost.
Both Dominic Gape and Rob Milsom were forced off during the match, but neither was limping or needing assistance as he left the field, so there's hope that at least one of them will be fit for Saturday.
So for the first time we exit this competition at the group stage. As others have observed, that may be a blessing in disguise, with our resources best spared for the battle to stay in the EFL.
