Adrian Barry has taken the decision to step down from his role as a director of Sutton United Football Club.
Appointed to the Board in November 2010, Adrian’s contribution to the club has been immense and we thank him for his unstinting support, enthusiasm, commitment and drive which has been at the heart of the club’s upwards trajectory in the last decade and longer, always immersing himself in a wide variety of projects and initiatives with huge energy and passion. Adrian commented: “It has been an enormous privilege to have served as a director of our amazing football club for over thirteen years during which time I have been fortunate enough, along with everyone associated with Sutton United, to witness extraordinary success and progress both on and off the pitch. Three promotions, terrific Cup runs, historic ascent to the EFL, many, many stadium and club improvements, cementing of partnerships and, most important of all, making friends for life. Rest assured I am not going anywhere and will continue to serve on the club’s Senior Leadership Team progressing partnerships and development plans and helping in every way I can to ensure our great club continues to thrive and flourish. This is the right time for me to step down from the Board, but I look forward greatly to still being heavily involved in the next exciting chapters in our wonderful club’s history. ForeverAmber''

I have nothing but the greatest respect for Adrian Barry. My closer connection to SU might be limited to since the club got to the EFL but I’ve attended games at GGL since 1981 so I’m well aware of the part AB has played in SU’s history and growth. He was always helpful to me and interested in why a Huddersfield Town supporter came to be buying a season ticket at SU.
A nice man and thank you AB.

The things I came here to say have pretty much been said already. The main one was "thank you Adrian." But I know we will have much more to thank you for in future as you will always be one of us and will always do so much for this club. One of the people who form the beating heart of Sutton United.

The board will be weaker without such a huge character and all round top bloke as Adrian on it.
Thank you for everything Adrian.

The team had the easy job of getting promoted, to enable the club to be brought up to EFL standard was the miracle and AB was one of the main driving forces behind that. I think he had a phone surgically attached to his head. I don't think I ever saw him off the phone during that mad close season before our inaugural season. Thank you AB, you've dealt with everything from flooded dugouts to last minute transfer dealings. Very glad you're still going to be involved.

AB is a real U's legend and has been involved in the journey, I know how he feels about the club, and just how much work he puts in. Apart from the removal of the term 'director' I can't see AB changing what he does too much a he is part of the walls of GGL It does raise the question of why? AB was elected initially as the fans representative via the supporters trust. I don't think AB is the only change we are going to see at board level. I read Tim's statement in last weeks programme re-marking their own homework, but are we going to get to see that homework? Interesting times ahead, and no doubt ones which will shape the clubs future?

I wholeheartedly agree with every word regarding AB’s service to this club that he has been an integral part of for so long.
But yes, have to wonder why, and more specifically why now? I do have concerns regarding losing such a voice as his on the board and everything that he stands for at the club. Will this herald a different direction and ethos for the club and one we may not be so happy with?

Will this herald a different direction and ethos for the club and one we may not be so happy with? Absolutely agree with every word of this post. Apart from AB’s unique drive and passion for SUFC the fact that he is rooted in the long tradition of SUFC,s great history and , for me, personifies what makes this club that we love totally unique. I always worry that the door becomes that bit more open to “history, tradition, ethos??! I don’t have time for that, show me the money!!” Having said all that, thank you again AB… for all of your incredibly hard work. I sincerely hope that you are able to continue in at least a guiding capacity at SUFC. Enjoy getting some of your life back!!
