Good point that, against a fourth placed team: Could have been more. Harry B man of the match for me, worked his socks off. Good start for Steve, and with two games in hand over Colchester we are right in it , yes disappointing we could not hold on but a point is a good one.⚽️⚽️⚽️

That was exciting stuff. The formation didn't change too much, and nor did the personnel, but it's pretty obvious that the style of play has.
The long ball was hardly evident, and as a result we played some lovely football, had good possession and didn't look like a struggling side.
Both goals we conceded felt like the Sutton of earlier this season, but habits are hard to shuffle off, but I thought it looked like a good start for Steve. Having Easty back in the first half helped but today was the best I've seen from some of our players for a while, especially Harry and Omari. Lakin already looks like a good signing and the fight and passion was back today.
I'll let others talk about the officials today but if the idiot who decided that Bouzanis was at fault for the first goal and let him know reads this, please don't bother coming back.

I thought Charlie Lakin slotted in well. Definitely more attempts at playing on the ground than previously. An encouraging start for SM, overall.

I hope this does not come back to bite me but I am so looking forward to this match , I’ve got the new manager bounce myself and I’m only watching ! The fact that we now have our first signing under the new boss has only boosted this feeling . I appreciate that all the players are still to get used to instructions , formations , injuries etc and we might still lose this one but I am still really up beat . My forecast is a 2-0 win 🫣 Well at least I got 50% of the score right !

Early days of course. But after today I feel there is optimism. Good to see less huff ball, Certainly more passing, good to see.( even though more side and back passing) H B man of the match followed by O P.
I will leave comments regarding the officials to others.Steve has got a lot to sort out.But as I said am optimistic. Question. When is Deano's loan contract up.I thought it was this month. No doubt someone will tell.

I thought we were poor for most of the first half with Barrow having most of the chances and us offering little threat until the 45th minute. What a transformation in the second half though with probably the best football I've seen from us this season. We really needed to go on and double our advantage but it wasn't to be and there was something of an inevitability when the visitors equalised.
As others have remarked, quite a contrast in style with the ball on the deck instead of in the air. Much more pleasing on the eye!
However, the performance yet again exposed where I believe we've fallen short this season: - ceding of midfield too easily (in the first half) with the game largely passing N'Guessan by and Eastmond, understandably, not at his best following his lengthy lay-off. It was just as well Harry had such an excellent match and Lakin pepping things up in the second half, looking like he could be a rather good signing - forwards who don't score: it's too much to expect the likes of Harry B to pop up with a brace every week
A word for Goodliffe who had the best game I've seen from him in ages.
Overall, a lot to be encouraged about against a good team and our diminishing injury list, whilst issues remain - good luck to Steve with those.

If we never see that referee again it will be too soon, utterly incompetent. The corner that brought their equaliser was a clear foul before that on Angol. And every Barrow long throw was illegal, one handed.

It is odd on opinions I thought our two centrebacks were at times all over the place and should have done better in several situations I.e the two goals we conceded and the sequence of play that lead to their forward hitting the bar. We need some more players with ability to kick the ball with their left foot. We began nervously and were content to avoid playing forwards when we tried too many of the few forward passes went astray. Got a bit better in second half some seeds of encouragement planted but at this time of year will they germinate?

The ref made a very poor error by not giving a foul in favour of Angol before the corner leading to the barrow equalising goal but no greater mistake than our defending of the corner. I think if they were not already wide open Mrorison's eyes will now know the enormous challenge he faces to keep us up. I have a hope he may achieve this goal but worry he may have a better chance of parting the red sea. On an entirely separate subject I thought our fan zone was an entirely uncomfortable place pre match to enjoy a pint so glad I could enjoy a warm in the 1898 bar. I though must admit stewarding duties prevented me from hearing the musical entertainment. What was the general impression on the entertainment ?

Decent start for the new boss. Strange decision to play Jackson at left back and he obviously wasn't comfortable there in the first half.I think he and Kizzi should have changed places. Deano's kicking was awful again.Glad to get a decent 45 mins out of the skipper who despite what i read earlier had a decent game. Shame to concede after fighting back from a goal down and going in front but there are good signs there. A tough game coming up at Mansfield next Saturday and any point /s there would be a really good start.

Just seen the highlights. 1st goal.the defence let the Barrow player walk through to score. 2nd goal.another defence mix up not to clear the ball. As been said.Still signs of earlier season mistakes. hopefully these errors will be sorted out.

An encouraging start all in all.
1st half we were obviously trying to play a bit more from the back. Fine. But difficult with our personnel and lack of confidence to change that overnight. Also against one of the most defensively organsied sides in the division. At least it meant we weren’t spending the whole half chasing the ball (63% possession at half time) which helps in reducing tiredness and mistakes. It was a clearly all very sideways and in front of them though and we looked a little lost going from full backs into midfield or forwards. They were the better side and we couldn’t have argued with being 2 down at half time.
2nd half we came out very strong, a really good 15 minute spell and had them on the ropes a bit, but didn’t seem to have the confidence to try and get the 3rd once we’d nosed in front. I guess also a bit of a reaction from Barrow and they’re a half decent side. Agree the new signing looks the business, we can now be very competitive in midfield with the captain back too. Probably looking for 1 or 2 to make a difference in an attacking sense now.
We were a bit weak for the equaliser, asking for trouble having Angol around defending aerially really, he rarely competes or jumps for anything.
So many little mistakes today but the work rate is there to see. We can compete with the best in this league, but it’s whether we can find the wins. Can we go out and be better than good and form sides. A positive start for Steve and he’ll think he has something to work with and probably some easyish wins in terms of areas to improve.

An encouraging start! However, getting the negatives out of the way first, I thought both full-backs were nervous and negative, as was N'Guessan. By contrast everybody else was better than usual. So was the style, with much less hoof ball other than from Deano. Charlie Lakin looks to be a good addition, his work is neat and composed, and once colleagues have greater faith in him finding them they will make better runs.
Blissful silence from the home dugout! Instead of 2 egg-heads yelling at players who had long ago switched off, SM did not raise his voice, happy that his pre-match instructions were being followed perhaps?
The last goal was unfortunate, I have seen it once live and 3 times in replay and I am no clearer about the goalmouth scramble - whether anyone should have done better.

Those 2 eggheads, as you so disparagingly describe them, managed us to the EFL and perhaps deserve a bit more respect than you appear to be prepared to give them.
As for our first match under new management a decent result against a Barrow side enjoying a decent season.
I thought we were a little passive in the first half and while apparently had around 60% of the possession we only got into their box once, Harry's very well taken goal.
Elsewhere in this thread, AndyK asks why one fan rather loudly blamed Dean for their opener. Well, his fizzing pass to Joe K gave the right back no chance. Thus possession was surrendered in our final third and from the throw their lively left sided player got through to set up the goal.
Dean's kicking wasn't great at times today, although I would question the tactic of aiming for Omari P most of the time when he's not known for his aerial prowess. That wasn't much different to what we did under Matt accept it would be aimed at Omar Bugiel or this season Harry Smith, when available.
It was a mixed bag of a performance. Not great until we scored, excellent after the break but then gave them a bit of the iniative after not managing to get a third.
Their second should never have come about but not for the first time this season, this ref failed to give us a blatant f-k and the opposition profited although this was not as directly as at Crawley.
Arguably, this afternoon, Harry B gave the best individual performance by any Sutton player this season and not just because he scored twice. Outstanding.
Charlie Lakin did well after replacing Craig Eastmond at h-t. Hope that was planned as Craig appeared to feel his hamstring at one stage although seemed ok .
Much for Steve M to consider. He will have been pleased with bits and not so pleased with others but a point against an in form team (last Saturday aside) isn't a bad start but as we all know it's wins we need.
Certainly cannot fault the effort of the players today.
