Far too early in my opinion to say if Steve was the right appointment but I think we can definitively say that it was the right decision to part company with Matt - personally I think we left the decision several weeks too late for any new manager to save the situation. Whilst it might sound negative I think the bigger threat at the time of the appointment was not whether we would be relegated from the FL but if we would descend into a club that quickly slid out of the NL as well. Under Steve I think there is at least encouragement that we can stabilise next year and re establish some foundations. In many ways I would rather see us as a successful team winning games in the National League than continually losing in the FL. Again whether Steve is the right man for that particular job is too early to say but there are at least some encouraging signs and, recognising all he did for us, Matt’s tome was and is done I was going to add my thoughts to this interesting thread but Big Al beat me to it by posting everything that I was going to say ! Thank you Big Al 😁 . Whilst I still firmly believe that we are going down I also think that if we could win the next three games it would give us a fighting chance . I have never been a betting bloke but even if I was I would not be running down to the bookies to place a bet that we will accomplish a three match winning streak for the first time this season . As for Steve , he was not hired to be our best mate but to keep us up . Unfortunately it appears that neither will be achieved . Looking further ahead I already feel gloomy about next season too . Most of our current squad would have left at the end of this season , crowds and revenue from gate receipts , advertising etc will fall and I believe it will be a struggle to even stay mid table in the NL . I also predict that at some point Steve will get a better offer or just try to preserve some dignity to his cv and jump ship before it’s too late . Sorry to be so gloomy but whilst I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a supporter of an EFL club I think we have been undone by late decision making by the board regarding Matt and by the bloody EFL making us rip up a perfectly good community pitch and spend money on a new one that met their “standards “ , money that could have been spent on team recruitment .

Might I suggest that you listen to the excellent podcast Mike did with Steve.
