Don't know about everyone else, but I've not enjoyed 45 minutes of football at GGL as much for a long time as today's 2nd half.
Also, I don't know if it's the magic of the FA Cup, the way we played or the sunshine, but there seemed to be a really good atmosphere in the ground (except for one Essex gobshite who didn't shut up!)
Anyone know if the highlights are going to be on ITV.com again?

Well, the camera was there, so let's hope so.
Great game where to start. The positives. We won. We played some good footy, scored two good goals & one great one & a new forward scored on his debut but more imortantly won a lot of headers for the team. lso Billy Dunn starred again when he came on scoing within seconds of his intoduction & ran his heart out for the team.
The negatives. The ref (bloke we had against Harlow) proved he ain't great with another below par peformance, although he did get the second yellow right.
Didn't see what happened to Paul N in the first half but other people have stated he was clattered by the forward. It must have been an appallingly late challenge for the incident to be missed. But why did the ref play on with our 'keeper prostrate on the ground? They nearly scored because of it. It's well known that when the 'keeper is down you stop play for obvious reasons whether a foul has been commited or not!
And to the real negative, the travelling fans. The abuse that PN got and then a couple of our players also received when they were injured was a disgrace to NL football & yes, if any Blues fan reads this it was me giving it back from the other end in the second half. Over the years the Ricay fans have always seemed a fair minded lot but not this afternoon. Put a sour taste on a good afternoon's football that both sides contributed to in their own style.
It was a far better game than Tuesday as the long ball was not so readily employed, probably helped by a windless afternoon.
Had to chuckle when one of their players tried to speed up PN with regards to taking a goal kick bearing in mind the similar antics of their 'keeper on Tuesday night. Annoying isn't it fella?
Still, we progress to the next round with a few bob and that's what counts.
Finally well done to Tony Dolbear etc for setting up the emergency PA system it was arguably better than the usual one!!!!

Deserved win today - their fortunate goal looked like it might set up a nervy finish but, after they were reduced to ten men, Gavin's goal sealed the game.
Agree with Frakey about the abuse aimed at Paul after he was left on the floor. It looked to me like the forward's momentum carried him into Nichols after he had cleared the ball up field. Calling him a cheat was insane - why would he lie on the floor outside his area after clearing the ball if he wasn't injured - it almost cost us a goal as a long shot bounced towards goal whilst he remained motionless. If he was faking he would have been up and stopping the ball at that stage. (Not sure I've described it very well but I know what I meant)
Great news off of the official site: 17 year-old Dunn celebrated a memorable fortnight by signing his first contract for the club after the game and Alan Bray also signed an extended deal.

Gotta echo Frakey's comments although in the first half we not were firing, and missing Palmer and when he did come on in the second with Dunn we really destroyed them. Yep Dunn top drawer again today for someone so young knows exactly where to be to poach them goals and is very strong on the ball, something we have needed for a long while. Palmer showed what he gives the team when he can on, from no midfield at all within minutes we had total control of it. Gavin finish for the 3rd was class, similar to goals Bailey used to score from us. My only disappointment was Ricay's decision to kick up us up in the air when things were not going to well for them, something we did not do in the 1st half and its shame on them as were their supporters. Ref and Lino's some very strange decisions indeed?? I knew Billy would come off the bench and do the business I told you earlier in the week <AND BOBBINS OUT 1-2 TO LEISTON>

A just result, given the ugly anti-football played by the Essex men.
Billericay posed more of an attacking threat in the middle 15 minutes of the first half then they had during the full 90 minutes last Tuesday. They won a string of corners and forced a couple of fine saves from Nicholls. But we still came closest to breaking the deadlock, Delando Smith's shot crashing back off the crossbar.
The turning point came in the second half when Dean Palmer and Billy Dunn came on. Palmer's physical presence in midfield was much needed, but Dunn opened the scoring when he glanced in a free kick within 30 seconds of taking the field. After that it was pretty much one-way traffic as new man Webb hit the inside of the post before he and McCallum added more goals. Billericay's reply was a bit of a freak shot, and the sending off of their big defender Duncan (for a second yellow) summed up their afternoon.

Highlights will definitely be up on ITV.com by Monday evening, possibly earlier, I will post the link when available unless someone else gets there first.
With regard to the challenge on Paul Nicholls in the first half, I'm told that the physio had to manoeuvre Paul's jaw back into place, perhaps the challenge will be on the highlights.

Quote from the Billericay forum....... We had our chances in the first half altho I think the score flattered them. Again, a game ruined by the opposition play acting. Nichols leading from there front with a shameless act to try and get Flackie sent off!!!
Hopefully they've got psychiatric hospitals up there. I don't know what it is about the "Essex" mentality but it seems that it's got worse over the last few years and all it means is that the retards have got more retarded. First half was even I thought...maybe Billericay could've sneaked in front. Second half, especially one BD and DP came on, I thought we were nothing short of excellent. Well done to Billy for securing his first contract - a hell of a lot of thanks to Steve Griffin and team for that - and great to see that AJ has extended his current contract. Oh....and I hope our neighours are fcking depressed )

From Chelmsford - son of ex Chelsea and QPR star David Webb. Looked pretty useful.
And as said elsewhere, I don't think i've enjoyed a 45 mins like the 2nd half today since 2004!

Was with AFC last season but the AFC supporters who were at the game yesterday gave a mixed report on him.Apparantly he wins lots of headers, tries very hard but lacks pace and rarely scores.Hopefully he will do well here especially after scoring in the first game.

Latest quote from 'Not So Bright' Side Boy:
<<<< 1st have was great just could not finish again. 2nd half where were we? and i mean all of us.
To be fair Nichols is a cheating scumbag but he did have the last laugh the little [****!!****].
Shame Dunk was sent off because of a shirt tug he only did what they were doing for most of this game and the last one.
Hat's of to the Billericay town supporters for showing up in more numbers than them.
Gutted ya that's me. >>>>>>
I'm so glad he's gutted.... Essex scum really.

Deluded. Might have taken more away for a sat game than a tues (there's a surprise!) but spent most of it slagging off our players rather than get behind their own team.
The only scumbags in the ground yestreday, I'm afraid, were from Essex. Shame 'cos I know one of their former supporters' club chairman & he's a decent bloke. He was very gracious in victory after Tuesday's game.

Well, I'm still waiting for stuff from them to put in the programme. Nice to see they stick the rules when it suits.
As for Nicholls 'cheating'. I also heard that Bobby had to realign Paul's jaw. And that when the ref came over to speak to Paul on the floor, Paul said it was a collision - nothing more. So he wasn't cheating, but had been hurt in physical game.
My annoyance was 1) the ref was ball watching upfield, so missed it, but the linesman should've alerted him to a head injury that was right in front of him and stopped play. And 2) an early candidate for "the FA's Respect campaign's finest advocates" slow clapping and being generally ungracious (though to be fair, that small section of fans did seem to have a generally crap attitude all the way through.)
