Times change. I am not surprised Eastie has gone as he has been an important player and must have been on a good wage, but he is starting to get on a bit for a footballer, especially one that covers as much ground as he does, as his recent injury setbacks show. I am sure under other circumstances we might have had the luxury or keeping him as a squad player limiting his games, but clearly we are in a position where a change is needed and finances are limited. Same goes to HB, although I thought being a tad younger he might have had a year extension. A shame we could have not seen them both off under better circumstances 😔 Other surprises was Deon Moore, as I thought he showed promise and could have been handy. Christian NG was also a bit of a surprise. The mystery with Rose goes on. Clay played quite well under Steve, and I anticipate some important recruitments in the midfield. Glad we have others under contract as at least we will get a few quid for them if they go. And the likes of Coley, Patrick and Smith wont be too shabby in the Nat league if they do stay. Your post very much matches my views. I'm not surprised by Eastie's departure either though he'll go with all our good wishes as a terrific servant for the club but thought Harry B might be kept on. Deon Moore is a bit of a strange one given that he was signed by Steve just three months ago. Clay and Hart failed to cut it in L2 for me. Hopefully, they'll fare better in the NL. Agree re Coley, Patrick and Smith, who could be one of the most potent attacking forces in the NL if no other club/s come in for them. What does stand out is that the defence, which conceded 84 goals over the season, has been largely kept on. Overall, there's the foundations of a pretty decent NL side.

They all served the club well but weren’t good enough to keep us up in the end. It might seem harsh but it seems unlikely that he’s going to release players that he thinks could still do a job for the team he is building. I’m sure they’ll all find clubs to continue their careers should they so wish and wish them well in doing so

Some hard-nosed financial reality behind some of these decisions I expect. Admittedly, I’m still very surprised Harry Beautyman and Deon Moore have been released, the rest not so much.
I’d be very surprised to see Omari Patrick stay; after a great start he just seemed to fade away and became a bit-part player and I don’t think his body language was good.
It would be great to see Lakin back but I imagine he’ll have suitors from L2 or even L1.

Patrick is on contract for another year, so I expect that wasn't part of the discussion, unless Steve felt it was so important to get him off the books, we paid the last year of his contract. That would be silly as we can get a fee for him if he (or Steve ) feels that he is surplus to requirements. If he stays, it could be exactly what he needs. Patrick at NL level could be quite devastating, and push his confidence right up, whilst having a lovely side effect of helping us too.

I think Lakin's social media statement made it pretty clear that we wont be seeing him return? Chances are that Burton will renew his contract or someone in the league will sign him. Though we must give our coaching staff credit, as they certainly got the boy playing more so than he did with his previous loans, and we saw a few players in the squad improve as the season progressed.
With regards to Patrick. I did speak with Anthony Fenton in the bar and he dispelled any rumours that Patrick was a problem child (cant speak for Matt Gray). Anthony said he was great to work with and was very professional. Take of that what you will. This was also the case with Deano, who again did not fall out with Steve as some rumors suggested. However, I don't think we shall see that loan expected into next season.
I think where Patrick was an issue, is he was attacking minded where the team maybe required his position to also cover tracking back more. Perhaps next year if he is still with us he can be utilized better.

Apologies for being a tad off subject , not for the first time , but does anybody know if we are keeping those super looking training facilities and if we will be full time next season ?

Not overly surprised with the list. I guess Moore was probably the more unexpected given just brought in and showed promise.
As others have said think budget will come into it with Eastmond, would be one of our highest earners and not getting any younger. Not to say he won’t have good seasons elsewhere. One of our best ever, of that there can be no doubt.
Beautyman another one who has given his all over the years. Thank you for the efforts.
Milsom has been a quality left back but again age a factor. Again thankful for contribution and efforts.
A shame we never got to see Barden in a Sutton shirt again, very unfortunate.
Not to forget Dundo who has gone through the whole journey with us, a fantastic servant to the club.
Surprised on Hart, don’t think he can defend personally, was relentlessly targeted this season and as we know NL isn’t too much different quality wise. Hope he proves me wrong and can be part of a great team next season.
You’d expect Patrick will be sold and likely Smith presuming he sees his future in League 2. At least we will get some funds if that materialises.
All in all we’ve got solid foundations for a decent defence which is a good starting point. As I mentioned in another thread Kizzi, Goodliffe, Jackson and Sowumni all would be minimum sought after at the top of NL if available. Still possible league clubs will pinch them.
Plenty of work to do in midfield and forward areas, am sure Steve has already got a number of players in mind.

Seems like we’ve learnt our lesson from last year about having far too much turnover over the summer…oh wait. Think that leaves us with just Craig Clay under contract in the middle of the park and he was comfortably the worst of our options this year and I’ll be staggered if he’s still here in August. The difference is we are going to play in a lower division. With a new manager. The two situations are not comparable. When we were last relegated we kept 2 players in a squad of 23 or so - Craig Dundas and Alan Bray. The rest of the squad were released. And we got to the play offs at the first time of asking. The side that got relegated to the Ryman in 2008 lost I think 9 on the bounce, this side has only lost 1 in 8 in league 2.

Like a number of others I was not surprised to see CE let go although recognising he has been one of our best ever midfielders (personally think Curly Rogers had the edge in him). Also think Harry has been fantastic for our club and really hoping there is a place for Dundo somewhere on the coaching staff.
To say we have the basis for a good defence slightly concerns me though given we let in more goals than any other team in League 1 or 2 bar Notts County. For me Kizzi, Louis and Ben need to rediscover their form of previous seasons whilst Hart needs to demonstrate more consistency.

A lot of the goals conceded were due to system issues and being played through midfield very easily. Most of those defenders individually have proven themselves at a higher level or unarguably NL. Defensive problem had mainly been resolved by Matt in the last say 10 games (maybe 1 or 2 less) of his tenure other than Stockport. Under Steve Morison we have mostly looked ok defensively too whilst not being watertight. But we were at league 2 level and it’s not easy being Sutton there, clean sheets hard to come by.

Pretty much my thoughts - I had thought Beauts would stay as he’s been played so much under Morison, and thought there might be a defence clear out as they’ve been a weak area, guess that’s why I’m not a football manager! 😂

As far as I can see, Ben Goodliffe and Louis John will be the only squad members surviving from the last time we were in the National League.
Joe Kizzi will be the player who's been with us the next-longest.

We won 3 games in our first 22 league games, and lost 7 league games on the spin within that. Would have been 9 on the bounce if we didn't get a slightly fortunate draw with MK at home.
