Times change. I am not surprised Eastie has gone as he has been an important player and must have been on a good wage, but he is starting to get on a bit for a footballer, especially one that covers as much ground as he does, as his recent injury setbacks show. I am sure under other circumstances we might have had the luxury or keeping him as a squad player limiting his games, but clearly we are in a position where a change is needed and finances are limited. Same goes to HB, although I thought being a tad younger he might have had a year extension. A shame we could have not seen them both off under better circumstances 😔 Other surprises was Deon Moore, as I thought he showed promise and could have been handy. Christian NG was also a bit of a surprise. The mystery with Rose goes on. Clay played quite well under Steve, and I anticipate some important recruitments in the midfield. Glad we have others under contract as at least we will get a few quid for them if they go. And the likes of Coley, Patrick and Smith wont be too shabby in the Nat league if they do stay. Don't forget the players get a say in who they play for too. Some who are good enough for League 2 might not want to play non-league football next season. It's not just about the money.

Of course.
Although sadly is will be largy about money. It is a contract business and they are responsible for what was agreed in that contract, as is the club.
If we do not receive a sufficient offer for them then the club has every right to expect their services for next season, unless we see relieving our wage outgoings as more important than making a sales profit. likewise, if the players do not want to leave then the club is obligated to keep them on and cover their wages for another year even if we do not want to.
I think they may have another incentive to stay, as if they have a decent season with us, they will be out of contract and available for free transfer next year and will then be in a better position to bargain for better wages, if there is enough interest.
I suppose if they request a transfer then it would be in our interests to find a replacement, but the club also needs to take care of its self.

Not a surprise however, when the club did the released and retained list Arnold, Kerbey and Hart were offered new contracts and those that weren't released were under contract for this coming season. This includes Smith and Patrick. Perhaps not much can be said until 1 June but i would like to think that a further explanation is needed by then. Smith being our most valuable asset is going to be a huge loss.

Assume that means Arnold and Hart have accepted new deals. Massive few weeks to stop this club sleepwalking back to regional football

The last time we were relegated, at one point we had a squad of 2 (Dundo and Alan Bray)
We're in a better position, and I'll expect a flurry of signings around the start of July.

Yeah you’re probably right, was just assuming and hoping this would be all the bad news grouped into one announcement. Some of that good news we were promised by the social media team would be nice about now.

To be fair I was not shocked about Patrick, as he became a bit of a luxury player for us, and had not really made the position his own. I anticipate Duke perhaps signing on for us.. 🤞🏻
Bit disappointed about Smith, I was hopfull we might have kept him on for the season. Perhaps Steves style of football is less direct so he was reluctant to give Smith too much of our budget..

It looks like we will need to sign some of the Walking Footballers Team for the new season.

Unfortunately no surprise but leaves us with a significant task to replace with these two players. Smith is definitely a forward who should be playing at EFL standard and Patrick would, I’m sure, have been a top performer in the NL.
Really hoping Steve has some tricks up his sleevebb be to get some names in
