And what does it say for those who won’t be getting their hands on it?

While Sutton was heavily referenced, it was actually about 3G pitches and the fact that EFL clubs continue to refuse them.
The main thrust was how wet the weather has been and that climate experts state it is going to get worse in the future. Therefore the EFL need to reconsider.
There was also mention of how much money it cost to rip it up, how much revenue was lost re hire of 3G and also its usage levels, community etc. And the conundrum about shelling out to put another 3g down when the club could again get promoted to the EFL.
There was some reference to what the players were getting paid on average now as to what they were getting in the NL before promotion. I have no idea how accurate those figures are and there was no evidence of the source of that info.
I think I have covered it in the precis above.

It is ridiculous that just second, third and fourth division games can't be played on artificial pitches when you can play World Cup and Champions League games on them.

I was an advocate of artificial playing surfaces but having seen Sutton play on both i must say i'm really glad we are playing on grass again, not withstanding the financial implications.

I don’t understand the rationale behind artificial surfaces being non compliant for EFL either especially when many surfaces are now hybrid anyway. Similarly I don’t doubt that the cost of ripping our one up combined with the associated loss of revenue will have been enormously significant.
Notwithstanding all the above I totally agree with Del - I just prefer seeing the game played on grass

How would you describe the difference between them that makes you prefer grass?

For me I think whilst the artificial surfaces have improved no end since the days of QPR, Luton and Oldham the bounce continues to be too severe, the ball skids and zips far more than grass and I dislike the ‘crumb’ and need to constantly water it to deaden it down. Players seem more reticent to commit to sliding tackles and I like to see a bit of mud on the players shirts (bit random this one I know).
There are also numerous environmental concerns about the crumb as well as disposal (they only last 10 years before heading to landfill).
Whatever else they definitely play differently in my opinion needing players with better touch and control because of the speed increase and to be honest we never have had that many players blessed with those competencies…

I think the 3G surfaces are now very good and agree they should be used higher. I accept the environmental concern but wonder how grass would compare given treatment required etc.
Anyway it’s not happening any time soon in the EFL so all academic and grass it will be. Hopefully we can end up with a good one after the summer actions.

We had a fantastic pitch laid when we were promoted and it will recover if given time and resources. It is over used and we do not invest enough in its upkeep during the season. It all comes down to revenue again.
