The 2024-25 National League season is almost upon us and what better way to begin than previewing non-league's top tier and predicting its outcome. By RYAN DEENEY link

I would not argue too much with that. I would not rule out a late playoff charge, but won't bank on it.

We should really be aiming for a playoff spot minimum, that is what Steve would wont, me thinks. Yes we have a younger squad but that should not hinder us, and also there is not an “outstanding” team this season, so two winnable games too start with.⚽️⚽️⚽️

I think I know what you mean, that there is no obvious big club splashing the cash, but we can’t possibly know at this stage whether there will be an”outstanding “ team.

i think that's a fair summary and i share his concerns over the lack of experience. I was rather surprised by the mass exodus and would have hoped that 2 or 3 more players would of stayed, certainly one of Harry or Easty. However Steve has assembled the cream of NLS and a lot of young hungry players. Personally I think it's a bit of gamble but i expect the purse strings are tight so hopefully he's balancing the books a bit while putting a good squad together. If we lose 5-1 or win 5-1 on Saturday i won't be down or get over excited. It's a long hard season.

I think I know what you mean, that there is no obvious big club splashing the cash, but we can’t possibly know at this stage whether there will be an”outstanding “ team. Exactly this. The 3 season that we've been away have been, in terms of champions, been utterly predictable. Stockport, Wrexham and Chesterfield were all clear favourites each season, and were all the best resourced team by a country mile. This season is the most level playing field we've seen since we won the league (and arguably since we were promoted from the NLS in 2016).

What often happens is that long-standing members of The 92 are relegated and it takes them a season or two to "get their act together", frequently in relation to off-field issues, and they're subsequently promoted. Examples include the likes of Lincoln, Notts County and Shrewsbury.
With that in mind, maybe Ryan Deeney's predictions regarding Oldham and Southend won't be far off the mark.

It is all to do with having a big supporter base after years in the Football league. If we start well we can be in the mix.
