Away numbers very impressive. Hopefully bodes well for hanging onto our home support despite the drop. Can’t imagine we would have got near that amount pre EFL unless a promotion game.

Back to the NL and if not a shock to the system the difference between L2 and the NL was on show yesterday. While comparisons are probably unfair the difference between Tamworth and say, Crewe was stark. A tight ground with the away end fans unable to see the goal line let alone the bottom of the back of the net. Then there was the 3G. Sutton fans are well used to watching matches on plastic of course, but where was the rubber crumb? There seemed to be little of it and the lack of that familiar smell of rubber was obvious. As at Maidstone in a PSF a few years back, when the temperature rises the pitch gets sticky if not watered before k.o and at h-t. There was no sign of any of that practice. Those two factors resulted in the worst advert for such surfaces as the ball bounced even higher than normally expected and I think U's players in particular struggled with that.
A fair breeze blew up the slope and both sides struggled playing down the slope with few chances made at the bottom end. Tamworth certainly had the better of it when they played up hill in the second half. Steve Arnold made two fine saves but his clearance into that breeze was not strong or accurate enough and Tamworth took full advantage. U's best chance had fallen to Jeremy Sivi but he failed to hit the target when going across the 'keeper may have brought better fortune or even a chance for Will Davies to poach. Tamworth missed another good chance before a U's cross from the right travelled to Josh Coley and he smashed home from close range. A point.
I would have taken that beforehand but Tamworth weren't great. They did however cause problems in that second half after SM had changed the shape by playing two up front and suddenly the midfield didn't look as good as it had done beforehand.
Our brightest attacking light in the first half was Dillon de Silva but he now looks to be out for sometime following a strong but fair challenge. That will be a big miss for this Sutton side.
Once again, loads of energy and determination but sometimes a lack of composure and carelessness when in possession was evident.
As I have said on previous matchday threads this season, fans will have to get used to the fact this is a new and young side and to expect top level performances from the outset and every week is both over optimistic and foolhardy. Some of the comments I have seen have been a bit harsh while others have been rather over the top with their expectations.
That said, making any full assessment based on one competitive match and that against a newly promoted side on their own patch and on probably the worst 3G pitch I have seen Sutton play on lacks wisdom.
As for Tamworth, they came across as a friendly club although communication of ticketing policy needs to improve greatly. A printed programme, not great but printed, assuming you was lucky enough to find one. Cheers KBB!
And yesterday's ref, Miss Byrne? A decent performance from this young lady and took no nonsense either. Perhaps, a little behind the play at times but no major howlers and that's a big plus. Let's hope the trend continues (if only!).
It was nice to get home before 9.30 pm too. Thanks for driving Dave F.

We won 5-1 and Stockport lost 0-1 first match last season so I think we can safely say yesterday’s results are unlikely to mean much Perfectly put. The season is 46 games long, not 1.

Have we had a shot yet? Arnold keeping us in it. I notice we had a corner. I watched it online and well done all those who travelled up there. I thought it seemed like the players were still playing pre-season although Mark's comments about the pitch could have had something to do it. Regarding the referee I felt the players didn't show her too much respect and I noticed when one of their players was being subbed she told him to go off the quick way but he just pushed her aside and kept on. If I was her I'd have cautioned him.

She needs to pop into Screwfix and buy a tape measure. Her estimation of 10 yards was probably the worst I've ever seen.

I think given that this is a new squad with very little experience at this level, and that proper fitness does not come until 4 or 5 matches into a season, yesterdays performance was a fair one, and a point away from home is never to be sniffed at. The draw was down to 2 basic errors one from each side which were duly punished. Coly looked the difference when he came on, and smashed home the equaliser.
This side could yet be anything, somewhere around top half at Christmas would be a good place to push on from in the New year with some strengthening, as last Jan loan signings might make all the difference?

Does that still apply when doing business with league clubs that are restricted by the transfer window? For example, next month could we sign someone or bring in someone on loan from a club in league 2? Or would we be restricted to just signing players from other clubs outside the window or free agent's?

We did it a number of times ourselves when we were in the EFL (Tope for example)

The window closing just stops them from signing players, it doesn't prevent sales or loans to any club not restricted by a transfer window.

Three points would have been a great start to our season but being realistic the team are still gelling , getting fully match fit and playing on a poor surface that may have been deliberate . Oh my , one game in and a conspiracy against us already !
So I’m happy with a point , especially as the players did not have a massive amount of time left after going a goal behind .
After seeing Plymouth on Sky yesterday I am just so grateful that I was not born down there 🙀🙀.
