So a win at Wealdstone. Midweek. Not easy. Hard to go to.
Bearing in mind that we have an almost completely new squad, all (of course) new to each other, a still recently in place gaffer, and a fair few off-pitch tweaks going on, I think we've started very well.

Very well indeed. early days indeed but averaging over 2 points a game which has to be our end of season target.

Hands up I did not go tonight but aside from a very nice haul of three points two things I just love from just seeing the SM interview . Firstly he is smiling a lot and joking . I think we are now starting to see the real man after a very difficult start to his reign when he did not come over as well at times , understandable given the situation he and SUFC were in then . I like it . Secondly , and more importantly , there was none of this “ we had to deep dig , the boys did great to hang on “ crap that you often hear and see on tv interviews from more famous managers . Instead we got a manager who was not happy that we were pushed back in the second half and had the play dictated to us rather than us bossing that period and he will take steps to address that . I really like that a lot .

3 points for sure, can't complain, but that second half was not great. We were really, really lucky.
I think the next two games against opponents that are more than capable of punishing mistakes, poor passing and a slow defence are likely to show us if we really are in with a shot this year.
Personally, I think unless our passing improves dramatically, we will struggle in the next two.

I don't think we can underestimate how decent that performance was. Yes the 2nd half wasn't as great as the first, but we dug in and we were playing up quite a significant slope. Plus a young team is not going to perform at a consistent level due to lack of experience. What we did see was a side bursting with energy and a "never give up" attitude. I think Wealdstone's current league position doesn't show their real ability. I don't think they are going to be title challengers, but are probably the best side we've seen this season. And we beat them. At their place.

Great result — an ugly win, but we’ll take it.
Another good turnout from us Any idea how many away fans were there?

I've just asked Wealdstone and the away figure for last night was 310.

Agreed, Wealdstone have had a poor start but with narrow defeats away at Dag & Red, and at home to Oldham, they were always going to put pressure on while fighting for their first points, and in the second half this showed as we started to tire a little. They actually looked like a good side who are well organized with a good work rate. I would not rule out seeing them pushing up the table and clear of the bottom 4. If people think we are going to go to places, particularly midweek, and not have to dig in and sweat, or go through games where the other team do not create chances, they may have a disappointing season. There will be plenty more like this.. One thing we know for a fact, "Wealdstone can't turn the lights out on us!"

It’s mentioned in the match preview. OK I see it now but it's not that clear. I'm still not happy with the official club web site. Please can you send me some constructive feedback, and I will see what can be done. Even better would be an offer to help. tim.allison@suttonunited.net

Conditions very much like Tamworth with the wind blowing up the hill making for a chilly watch for those of us not fully attired for such weather. This time though, it was the slope that gave each team more success with U's dominating the first half hour or so and scoring through Charlie Waller on debut. What is it with our left backs so far this season?
'Stones had their moments though especially down the right where they overloaded and got some crosses in. Steve Arnold made that fine save late in the half before his opposite number made an equally fine intervention from Josh Coley's powerful effort.
The hosts dominated the second half, they're always good running down the slope and I think that may be the first time U's have avoided defeat at GV in the league when having defend down there in the second half.
It wasn't pretty but not every game is going to be like Alty on Saturday. Five changes made by SM to the starting line up and while I am not a fan of rotation on these levels I understand why with four matches in nine days.
Thought we defended reasonably well, although they did get behind a couple of times and missed an absolute sitter, was it offside? Wealdstone will be gutted not to get something out of it and Enzio Boldewijn came close in the last minute. He was denied by Steve Arnold, who having made that fine save late in the first half, did so again after the initial effort came off him and hit the post before he reacted very quickly. Based on that Steve was my motm for Sutton.
Only a second league win for U's at GV and the last time that happened we went onto win the NLS.
Three points and a clean sheet away from home - perfect stats.

It was only mentioned in there about being able to see it. I think it needed a news item emphasising that. The latest news should be the top of the screen - to my mind.

Having seen the first 3 matches with the new squad, firstly 7pts from them is a great return. A lot more defensive errors in the National league which have been pounced on. We are good when pressing and put sides under real pressure making them hurry and panic. We are scoring goals and defending well with just one goal against from one of our few errors. If we have a problem its when we don't press and you can't do that for 90 mins so there are times you come under pressure, and its getting out from there that is proving a problem. I think we are just missing that bit of experience from a 30yr old, hold it up midfield player. There are better teams in the National that can beat the press which could leave us exposed, and there are some longer ball specialists who could pose problems.
All in all a great start from a very young side.

Away fans are rarely make complementary comments, so it was refreshing to see the following on the Wealdstone forum : Game of two halves last night, Sutton's first 45 minutes was probably the most impressive I've seen from an opposing team at this level since Notts absolutely ran us over at The Vale a couple of years ago, relentless press and some slick one touch football when they were able to counter attack.
