Jon Barden has retired from football. He has posted this news on Instagram. Jon indicated this was in the cards when interviewed at the hospitality lunch at the first home game. He said his leg hadn’t healed well enough for him to get back to full fitness and performance. It is very sad, he was a favourite player of mine the few seasons he was with us on the pitch. A feisty midfielder then becoming a solid right back who never shied away from a tackle. Hopefully he’ll find something fulfilling to do with his footballing and fitness knowledge and experience.

I thought he was a bit of an unsung hero for us. I rated him a much stronger right back than Kizzi.
Those of us who were unfortunate enough to witness that night at Stevenage probably knew he needed a miracle to come back from an injury like that, which sadly didn't happen.
Top lad, great footballer and wish him all the best in his next endeavour. He'll always be welcome here.

The club was always great at re-habilitating ex-players and he was a great servant wherever he was needed. Let's hope they find something for him.

A great player for us in what was a fantastic period for the club. Wishing all the best to him for the future.
