Browsing this link www.historicalkits.co.uk/Articles/Strange_Hues.htm (great site by the way) I see that in 1896 Spurs won the Southern League wearing the famous choc & amber stripes. It says that two years later they changed to the white that they still use. That would be in 1898, when the U's were formed. History tells how the new club wanted claret & gold but were offered a cheap set of choc & amber that were surplus to another club's requirements. Could it be . . . . . .

I know one or two of our supporters who would be very interested in a Spurs connection!

The choc & amber connection is why Spudz have their chocolate brown strip for this year (mostly worn in the UEFA cup it seems).
According to the history books, we chose Choc & Amber simply because the preferred first choice of claret & gold (think Bradford City) caps was too expensive (Yes, I did say caps).
The cap maker had a set of choc & amber that a local cricket (I think) team had failed to stump up the cash for and he let us have them cheap.
It's all in the centenary book.
The only 'connection' we'd have with Spudz regarding shirts that I can recall is that we wore their Sky blue 'Holsten' away strip for a SSC tie (about 1989/90) at Ashford Town (Middx) as the home side wore tangerine & white stripes, which was deemed to clash with both our home & away kits.
Damn I've got some rubbish stored in my head!
