Today, FA unveils investigation into unusual betting patterns surrounding last Saturdays game against Rusden, bookies said to have paid out @£1million mainly to Weymouth fans on the game as opposed to the normal £30-£40k?? Last week Weymouth announced 1 million shares to be issued at 50p each in a last ditch attempt to save the club. This week, Weymouth director Mark Golsby claimed that talks were ongoing regarding a rescue package for the crisis-hit club. The Pied Piper of Hamelin has obviously moved to Weymouth

Bookies lost money because they do not do their research at non league level so in certain circumstances odds may not reflect reality.
I knew Friday night that Weymouth were putting out their Youth team and wish I had placed a bet. There will be many in Weymouth who would have heard the news and saw a chance to make some money.

Alot of people knew on weds/thurs and R&D were 15/8 best price and lots got lumped on and it was slashed to evens/10/11 by late thurs/fri and betting suspended late fri!!
Took the bookies to realise they were going to lose 7 figures before suspending betting!!!
Far and away abnormal betting patterns!!

By post was a bit tongue in cheek, but there is a very fine line here? Surely it all depends on how you get 'wind' of such things?
I actually do think that Woking have a very good point along with other sides which have already played Weymouth twice. I think all there results should be struck off and Weymouth be suspended from the league.
Nothing winds me up more than playing against sides which are spending money they do not have and the punishment should be more severe!

Why should they be suspended? They can still field a side.
Woking are clutching at straws IMO.
We played WSM twice earlylast season when they were flying, then they cut their budget and everyone around was beating them, should we have done the same?

It's just a case of toys being thrown out of prams by Woking etc. As Chalmers said, they can still stick a team out. I was thinking of seeing if I could get a game this weekend.

Thing is, either way, someones not going to be happy.
If they fold, all results are expunged. So someone WILL lose out on points 'hard won'. But on the other hand, if they keep sticking out youth sides, they'll get tonked most weeks and sides will fill their boots points and GD wise.
Personally, I prefer the latter. At least the football club is still trying to do what it should. Playing games.

I think that all clubs should have to prove they have at least some degree of stability in their budgets at the start of the season. I do not think Weymouth's youth team really equates to putting out a side capable of competing and therefore think it would be most unfair if say Woking were relegated by 3pts at the expense of someone else giving Weymouth a tonking.
I don't have a problem with people putting money into clubs but to willfully spend many thousands a week out that you don't have is totally wrong and unfair on teams like ours. To play a sides like AFC Hx in the same league as us now after going bust is totally wrong. As far as I am concerned if a team does it then they go for good no resurrection 2 divisions below, and an end to all this AFC prefix stuff too, the name goes as well.
Prudence should be rewarded not punished!
RANT OVER!

Sorry OS but that is little difficult to enforce. I perhaps agree that reforming clubs should be placed lower than some have been but you can't prevent "new" people coming in and starting a Football Club up again if they satisfy the competition rules.
I believe the Conference requires the submission of end year accounts, I suspect most leagues do, so if there was a problem with breaking existing rules it wasn't evident then.
If Weymouth go into admin then they will be deducted points & end up in the relegation zone leaving, in effect, just one place up for grabs in the bottom 4. Looking at the table that may help Woking but they're in the position they are because of their own team not because of the other 23 clubs in the league.

To be fair to AFCH they did go all the way down to the Essex Senior league, the fact is it's only two levels below where we are at the moment so they took the risks they did and aren't far off of where they were 3 years later.

I have heard from a very reliable source that a certain Chelski player had £20k on Rushden to win
