Paul Doswell reckons the signing of Laurent Hamici could be the final piece in Sutton United’s Ryman Premier promotion jigsaw puzzle.
Hamici, snapped up for £1,500 from Dulwich Hamlet, has fired two goals in two starts since arriving at Gander Green Lane.
And, linking up with fellow strikers Gavin McCallum, Chukki Eribenne and Billy Dunn, Doswell raves about the goalscoring potential at his disposal.
Doswell said: “Laurent is a fantastic signing for us.
“To be honest I was looking at bringing him in for next season, so to get him now is a real bonus.
“We have signed a pure goal-scorer.
“When you have someone who can get you a goal out of nothing that really gives your side an edge.
“Combine him with Gavin, Chukki and Billy and we are a threat to any defence.
“Gavin has been unbelievable this season - perhaps he has not scored as many goals as he could but that would be churlish of me to complain with everything he does for the team.
“With Chukki you get the experience - he has really suffered this season with injuries but still gives us an awful lot.
“And Billy is a great talent - we really miss him when he is not in the team, and he has a great future ahead of him.”
Sutton stretched their unbeaten run to six games on Tuesday night as they won 3-1 at Boreham Wood, with Hamici, McCallum and Eribenne on target.
And Doswell feels his side are hitting form at just the right time.
He added: “It was a very important win for us, and we really seem to have got the monkey off our back as far as away form goes.
“In fact, in the form league we are currently second.
“It wasn’t a great performance, especially in the first half, but Eribenne made the difference for us.
“He put in a classic centre-forward display, and that helps when we have so many young players on the pitch.”
Sutton are on the road again this weekend when they face Ashford Town, but Doswell is confident his side are in a strong position.
He added: “As far as I am concerned we are a stick-on for the play-offs.
“For us to miss out now it would need someone else to go on a ridiculous run of form.
“We know what we have to do, and we just need to get on with it.”
