I note from the Ashford preview on the Official website that they have entered both the Middlesex and Surrey Senior Cups this season. I thought it was only possible to affiliate to one County F A and hence only enter one County Senior Cup. Does anyone know how Ashford have pulled off this trick?
PS. I know we used to enter both the Surrey Senior and London Senior but I thought the London F A was an exceptional case as it wasn't a 'County'F A. PPS. Sorry if this all seems a bit anal but I was just curious and what is the internet for, if not to clear up one's curiosities?

Then why do Middlesex have an FA when they don't have a county? Just curious!

Essentially, it's because of our history. The club has always affiliated to the Middlesex FA, but in the 60s and 70s there were no Middlesex Leagues. The club moved up through the Surrey Intermediate League and when the Surrey Premier League was formed in 1982, we were invited to become founder members.
However, in order to be a member of the Surrey Premier League (which is now CCL Division One), you had to affiliate to the Surrey FA and enter their cups. We did, and have done ever since. It's no different to Kingstonian or yourselves playing in the Surrey Senior and London Senior Cups, or Redbridge (London and Essex) and many others. It happens a lot in Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool too, so a club like Altrincham can play in the Manchester Senior Cup and the Cheshire Senior Cup.
There is no rule that says clubs cannot dual-affiliate to two counties. In theory, we could affiliate to London FA too! However, there is a rule that only your "parent" County's Senior Cup has precedence over League games and most Leagues, including our own, have a rule limiting the amount of outside Cup competitions club can enter.

Thanks, John. Another "interesting" fact for you:
The fence at the Fuel Plant End constitutes the border between the administrative county of Surrey and Greater London because our ground is in Stanwell (Borough of Spelthorne, Surrey County Council) and the Fuel Plant is in Bedfont (London Borough of Hounslow).
Both are, however, still in "old" Middlesex!

If you ask Chukki he thinks that Ashford play in the Kent Senior cup as well.
