An odd afternoon - first 15 Hastings were certainly the team on top. The penalty was probably right, along with the yellow card - they smack it on the underside of the bar and it comes out.
Few minutes later the turning point happened. Westy is making a break down the left and their no5 goes sliding into which would be described on Match of the Day as 'an agricultural lunge' with both feet. Ref throws the red card up straight away. We all think, Hastings down to ten men, then a moment later I can see Westy getting restrained and being escorted off the pitch. Straight red for "a two footed challenge". Now from where I was standing, I went through the possibility of why - it was impossible by the laws of physics that Westy could have achieved a two footed tackle (as firstly he had the ball), unless he managed to pull out both legs from his pelvis bone, picked them up and used them as clubs on their no5. Another fantastic example of the shocking standards of reffing at this level. If the powers that be want this to be a professional and high standard league, then why employ these monkey officials who are on the pitch who do the best they can to bring the game into disrepute - todays official with his smugness only antagonised both sides today.
But saying all of that, I wonder if we would have won if that didnt happen. All of a sudden, a passion developed in the side and we went on the attack. There was a 'backs to the wall' urgency about our play, and it payed off, Laurent heading a beauty in from a Gav cross. Kes's goal was also a header, after some woeful Hastings defending. Although they started brightly, at 2-0 they were poor and cracks were showing in their team spirit.
Our 2nd half performace was actually the best i've seen in a few weeks. Credit especially to Monk, who gets better with every game, AJ who was immense, and Dundas had a really good game.
3 points against our rivals could all but secure our play off position - out of our rivals, only bobbins managed to win. We are 7 points above 6th place now, and a minimum of 4 above Hornchurch.
Play liked we did in the 2nd half today, and getting to the play offs will be a breeze....and who knows beyond that.
Well done boys!

We played with 10 men and ground out a fantastic professional 2-0 win which has put us on the brink of a playoff place. I still cannot believe that ref, the sending off from my angle looked ridiculous no one in the stand complained and most of us thought there guy had been sent off as he was late on Westy. Maybe its my old eyes but I can't workout how you can get a straight red when the other guy is late?? I agree with Andy given the position of the players the law of physics don't allow for the offence. The penalty shout which resulted in a Yellow card just baffles me, the way he went down suggested contact whether you had a clear view or not? Still an excellent performance and if I am allowed to say it a tactical victory, Kes's first goal this season, AJ was again superb at the back but my MOTM goes to Gavin he lead the line superbly all afternoon. A win now whether its against the Bobbins or Margate means that AFCH have to win all 3 games in the next 7 days to have any hope of overtaking us. Wealdstone and Maidstone can onlt get 65pts max so it will be bye bye to them too WELL DONE LADS JUST ONE MORE PUSH ! From the Hastings Forum says it all realy: Wow, what a disappointment that was! For 45 mins we battered them, playing some lovely football. Sam missed a penalty, they had a player sent off, and we had a referee who gave us everything. I along with everyone in the crowd was sure it should have been Rhys sent off. But anyway, I settled down with my half time cup of tea, fairly content and awaited the 2nd half onslaught. But 45 mins later, we had lost 2nil, without barely a wimper. No shots on target, barely a pass to feet. Why did we resort to the long ball, when there 2 center backs were 6'4 plus ?? . Huge disappointment, and would like to have been a fly on the wall at half time, because we came out completely clueless on how to break down 10 men. Mixture of results at the today and now 5th from bottom. Must get at least a point now from Tonbridge.

Westy 'jumped' the worst of the sideways two-footer on him and stamped on the player as he landed, apparently. That's from the ref, sent off for stamping but I think that the only people who saw it were the ref and the Hastings assistant manager. I haven't heard Westy's version as yet but the decision was incredulous from my view, the Hastings player's challenge was still worthy of a yellow regardless.
Full credit to the lads today, what a sterling effort and hopefully the performance and result are worth their weight in gold for the team spirit alone. We didn't wake up until going down to ten men and I can't help but think that this will have a very positive effect for the final run-in, may have done us a favour in a perverse way!
Special mention for David Hughes who insisted on playing today despite having had a traumatic morning, well done David and best regards.

" battered for 45 mins" had by far the best of the first 15 to 20 minutes would be fairer and of course we were 1 nil up by half time but you have to excuse the author as he's spot on with the rest of it!

Westy told me he hadn't got a clue why he was sent off. Great performance by the team.We weren't just lumping it forward to a big centre forward today as in previous weeks but actually played it on the ground.Just shows how a change of tactics can change a game.

I meant to add, had I been on the end of that challenge I wouldn't have been able to help where or how I landed, clearly explains Westy's reaction at receiving a red.
Final point, the ref looked for the lino to flag the penalty for the challenge on Lauren, I blame the lino for that one as he flagged some utter nonsense and then missed the one under his nose, given no support, the ref decided that Laurent had dived, just added insult to injury!
Worst officiating I've seen since Luke Naughton's red card at Thurrock. Let's put that behind us now and carry this momentum forward....

What a fantastic response from the lads after Westy's misfortune. We were excellent in every department and in the second half it looked like we had the man advantage. Two great headed goals and with a little more composure it could have been double the two goals that we did get.
Now onto the muppet in the middle who shamed his profession today with an awful diplay. The match was not dirty, indeed this was one of the less physical games of the season but out came his cards at regular intervals.
As for the sending off, even the Hastings fans around us thought it had been shown to their player, who looked to have made a two footed challenge from behind from my angle.
Mr Crouch is apparently a former Welling player. Who said that x-players would make decent officials.? His booking of Laurent after he had gone down after being clipped from behind just summed up his afternoon.
Smiling and laughing at irate fans also demonstartes this guys mindset. He was not there to ref a football match but to star in his own show. I know how difficult refereeing the game can be from my own experiences, I also know we are short of refs but for the good of the game guys like this should not be allowed near a football ground until they realise they are there to administer the laws of the game not use the occasion to massage their inflated egos.
If he drove back to NW Kent after thinking he had a good game today, he is then a seriously deluded man who should seek counselling at the nearest opportunty.
A great win & I would be happy with a draw on Monday as a result.
Our first red of the season in all competitions, 20 mins into the thirty-ninth league game of the season. Not too many clubs at this level will be able to boast that.

Oh I had fun today!
The penalty looked harsh as the ball seemed to move away from the goal indicating a save, but I was pretty far away. I thought that PN got a hand to it and pushed it on the bar but again was too far to judge it.
The sending off was a joke, it took me a good minute or two to digest the fact that West was the one heading off the pitch - if the reason was for the 'stamp' after the foul where was the free kick for the foul?
But as above from this point onwards I felt we never looked like losing.
Great result and now a win on Monday will make PO's certain - looks good!
Last point on the ref, he was shite yes but his worst crime was the inciting of the crowd - if a player had done that he would have been sent off, I am off to find the actual ruling and will complain to the FA.
Now the last point their number 5 was a cock for most of the match but his thumbs up when booed after he was given motm almost redeemed himself!

Well done Sutton .I'm a Hastings fan ( for what its worth !) and I have to say you played really well especially as you had 10 men against 12. The ref was totally biased towards us .Why your player got sent off god only knows. It was a disgrace ! It certainly gave your players the fire in their belly's to punish us. I thought up until then we were slightly on top. Had Sam scored from the spot it would have been a different game .But he didnt and I thought your team played really well. Its a funny old league and I have to say no team has really impressed me much this year until today. Your number 11 is class and your Captain aint bad either. Shame about your keeper with his tights and his pathetic attempts at time wasting though :-) In all seriousness good luck if you make the play offs .I hope you get to play Staines in the final. Then may the best team win !
Oh yeah and probably the noisiest support we have had from away fans at the PF for a while .Respect !

Thank you Scarface, I have been really surprised at the honesty from you guys on your forum. We were chasing shadows and could not break out until the sending off which I initially thought was a bit harsh on your guy until I realised Interested to hear the word biased used as if he was at Welling with Dolby and Rutherford the FA have a case to answer as they are suppose to take previous links into consideration? Its strange how the only complaint can from the Hastings bench and within seconds the red card had been shown?? As for noisey support your terrace is good can we have it along with the disco speakers
