I thought today's match would be a tough one, as Hastings need the points as much as we do and they've had some decent results recently. But in the end it was surprisingly easy, despite the big decisions (penalty and red card) going against us.
I thought we got the tactics spot on once we were down to ten men, defending quite deep but using Gav and Laurent as outlets in the wide positions. The two combined beautifully for our first goal. Paul Nicholls made two or three fine saves to keep us in the game, but Hastings lost their discipline in the second half.
We've conceded some rubbish goals from corners this season, so it was refreshing to get one for a change, Hastings's marking all over the place as Kes connected with the ball. After that their players spent too much time arguing amongst themselves, with their number 7 Gonnella - perhaps their most talented player - being substituted as he was at risk of getting himself sent off. We then just coasted to the final whistle.

Not a great first 15, then the red card and off we went! Super first goal. Great cross from Gav and perfect run and positioning from Laurent to give us the lead. Still, the half could have gone either way, but got into the break 1 up. Second half, we looked to have the man advantage at times and played some good stuff. Dundo, Laurent & Gav were unlucky not to add to the tally. Good performance. We had to dig in for the result and we did. After last week nicking the win, this just what we needed. Hopefully, we can seriously kick on from here. As for the ref. I wish Peter Crouch had taken charge of the game. What an absolute tosser. Probably the only bloke in the ground who thought it was a red card for OUR player (sorry, I might be mistaken here, but wasn't it THEIR bloke who was late?) and then carried on a bit of a shocker, grinning and taking a bow at the stick aimed his way before capping it with Laurent's yellow card for 'diving'. Utter tw*t. Now, lets take the 3 points monday and all but nail on that PO spot.

Nicholls Bray, El Salahi, Bond, Jackson McCallum, Hughes, Dundas, Palmer West, Hamici West sent off so we went with Hamici on his own with McCallum the main support. Jackson then got injured so Hann came on (although it was announced as Phillips and it took us a few minutes to realise which of our short blokes it was!) and then finally Dunn replaced McCallum late on. Blame the ale if anything's wrong there

I have never criticised a ref on line before, but then I've never seen such a seemingly biased performance. He was dreadful. Enough has already been said about Westy's sending off, absolutely ridiculous, but the foul on Hamici right in front of most of our supporters was such a clear trip and seemed a certain penalty when the ref blew. We looked in disbelief when he booked Hamici for diving and seemed to enjoy doing it. I would like to add how well Hamici did by constantly harassing their back line in the second half and it was good to see our back line so dominant in the air throughout the game.

Any of the press gone for a "Battle of Hastings" pun today? Just reflecting on my excellent Saturday, pre-match i was annoying the Aleman by pointing out how everything was building up to be a good day, from stumbling on a mini beer festival, the sun coming out, to cheap and tasty baked goods and passing a Fearon Road (a sign of a great goalkeeping performance to come, surely?) everything was building up to a good day Even when we were standing around on Sutton Corner on Sutton Road in Seaford for half an hour, waiting for a seemingly non-existent bus with the Aleman, i joked about how we've had no luck with Sutton Corner's this season and was proven wrong later in the day! Best thing about Ian Crouch refereeing the game today? He can't possibly be in charge of Monday's game...
