I tapped into my AFC source to find out a bit more about Jason Goodliffe and the reply I got was
"the guy is quality, will do really well at Sutton, thats the sort of signing which means you are really gunning for promotion"

Can't say that I am really that surprised about some of the players leaving but I am shocked with the departure of Collins. I thought he was outstanding last season, quick, strong and great in the air but had an excellent understanding of the game whcih leaves me to say I cant name a CF who got the better of him last year. Goodlife has been an excellent player but he is getting on now (35) and I hope that Doswell has made a bold decision in replacing Collins with him but i hope it's the right decision as we all know how qucik and dynamic some of the opposing CF have been this past year. Role on pre season i cant wait and lets hope that these signings are the right ones.

I'm disappointed that players like Bond, Collins, Dundas and Hughes are leaving. Some of the other departures were more predictable.
I am quite impressed by the new signings. Scriven is a decent keeper, Goodliffe should bring leadership and experience to the back line, and Woods-Garness and Joseph will use their pace to create and score goals. Arguably these are better players than the ones they're replacing.
However, I remember a lot of optimism about the team that Paul Doswell put together last summer. In the end, that squad perhaps under-achieved a little, so we shouldn't get too carried away this time. I think the main problem last season was that we didn't score enough goals, but that was largely down to Chukki and Steve Watts beng injured or unfit for so much of the time. If we can keep our main strikers fit this time we should do better.

Now is Oscar Lubwama staying and is Jerson going to be with us?

If you read Dos's bit on the website, its obvious that Dos didn't release Collins as such, but Collins felt he needed to be at a club closer to him, and play at a higher level. I had to admit I was a little concerned about the age of Hughes and after his catelogue of injuries last year, but he ended up being possibly the classiest player of the side. Bearing in mind Dos is going for a younger overall team, we certainly could do with the experience and leadership of Goodliffe

Dos is basically going the Wenger way with youth then moulding the side but if you do that it takes time and you have to keep the side together, something Arsenal have found impossible to do. You also have to get that balance right between youth and experience, what happens if Goodliffe gets injured etc?

One thing that concerns me is the strength of the team. Last season we did lack a bit of pace in the middle of the park and we did look leggy towards the end of the season, but Dundo and co were strong lads who battled hard and stood up to a challenge. There are a few physical sides in the Ryman and I just hope that while the new guys are young and pacy, they don't get knocked off the ball too easily. As long as we don't end up with the Arsenal syndrome where less able teams can muscle them out of the game I'll be happy.
With regard to youth and experience, most of these players have played at an equal or higher level for a couple of years at least, so should be no mugs. McKimm might still have some legs if we need an older head on the pitch?

Now is Oscar Lubwama staying and is Jerson going to be with us? Given that Jerson seems to flit in and out every so often, I think we can pretty much forget about him.

So, based on ins and outs so far, how might the re-shaped squad line up?
I'd suggest:
GK: Scriven LB: Bray RB: B Hawes CB: Goodliffe CB: El-Salahi LM: J Hawes RM: Joseph (Hann) CM: McKimm CM: Phillips ST: Watts (Dunn) ST: Woods-Garness (Hamici)

Indeed, Taz. I don't post under my real name without reason!
Whatever AJ decides, he is not a Sutton United player yet. He may well sign for you - in which case good luck to him - but it is not cut and dried yet.
