Before considering this further, apart from the pride of co-ownership of our favourite club, what rights do new share-holders acquire, noting there are no possible dividends payable?

Honest answer is not a lot. But, of course, that's not what it's about.
A shareholder's benefits are:- Right to attend the AGM, ask questions and vote: the main vote being the ability to vote out the company chairman or other directors. Shareholders can also seek to have rules changed.
There is then the possibility that for certain big games shareholders would be given priority for tickets. Let's hope that situation arises.
