CRAP!
Mediocre first half followed by inane drivel in the second half which only improved after conceding the goal and with three subs on the field. Until the introduction of Danny into the midfield the two front men were completely isolated and while both Sam and Stephan worked tirelessly, they were on their own with no balls to feed off and they were never going to get anywhere without support against a well organized BW back four.
Starting with two holding/defensive mid-fielders in the middle at home to an average Ryman side was a mistake in my opinion. As the midfield was far to flat and sat 10 yards to deep we were never able to get at them properly in the first half. This gave BW the incentive to push forward which push our two banks of four back and led to the artillery style rubbish served up in the second half. No movement, no creativity and no vision in midfield at all. AJ2 was in no-mans-land for most of the game, only having a couple of runs in the first half and Matty Hann was always looking for a ball that never came and ended up running around the whole pitch tying to get into the game.
Defensively, the centre backs need to start working together better. They've not had many games together but they have to start communicating a whole lot better very soon because we are constantly leaving big men unmarked ad unchallenged around the box, which is suicidal at best and utterly useless at worst. Thank the footballing gods that Dos brought in Billy Hawes to complement AJ otherwise we would be struggling.
Moving away from the diamond we played with relative effectiveness in the first few games of the season has taken us away from the style of play we have the players to play. Sorry, but I think Dos got that one wrong for once. That does not excuse the teams static performance however and there are many lessons to be learned from this game. I'm afraid Dos and Alan have a lot to do in the coming weeks.
