Nice 1st half, but woeful 2nd. Another goal from a header, something to work on there please Sutton.

Rubbish performance against a mid table side who stood strong and defensively had us in their pocket from about midway through the first half, I thought their No2 and 3 were excellent. The game followed the pattern of all previous ones with our midfield looking one of the weakest in the division which in the second half just imploded completely. It was only Poulton's first game but it was not a very good debut for me at all, where the feck are our ball winners any side can look pretty if you just stand back and admire them. Yes we have some talented players who can win games but we can't win headers, we can't mix it in midfield, we don't chase down. You have to earn the right to play your football and we are just not doing that, the balance is not right we are too predictable down the flanks because we cannot play through midfield.
A reality check today I am disappointed but it is still early in the season.

Lost 1-0 according to Sky Sports Don't forget that you can get score updates, HT and FT on www.twitter.com/sutonunited - you don't have to join or log in to view but I update by sms straight away so it will probably be the fastest, and of course it's reliable! Aside from Sat 19th (away at Tonbridge) as I will be MIA - on a stag do.

I had to leave at FT so haven't had the chance to ask the player but am I the only person that saw the BW #5 (Ujah) punch Stefan Payne when they were on the ground, in the little tussle near the centre circle for which we were awarded a free-kick?
When Stefan got up he was definitely rubbing his jaw as if he'd been chinned.

He went down on the edge of box and then went and had words with their 7.

Disappointing but we should give cedit to BW who came with a game plan, stuck to it & got the goal. A match of few chances, spoilt by a stiff breeze towards the CR end and something we didn't cope with too well, hitting too many long balls in the first half and struggling to clear in the second.
BW were strong at the back with 2,3 & 5 all impressive.
A bit harsh OS, having ago at Alan Pouton in his first match.
Once again another header. I think every goal we've conceded this season has been down to the defence failing to win a header, although you have to say it was a cracking finish from their fella.
Fortunately, not too many above us won today - alot of draws - but it already looks like Darford are this season's Dover. Putting 5 past Hendon is impressive.

Not good enough i'm afraid. Are passing was abysmal, our midfield not tight enough and our two front runners not troubling a well marshalled BW defence. We need to sort this out quickly before Dartford do a Dover!

What was with all the over-long long balls today? Are the lads training enough together?
AJ was class , 9/10. Their defence was very effective, but what have we if (when?) Payne is signed up by a professional team? Gargan looked out of it and Wood-Garness had the heart if not the ability to match the BW def.
Shame on the booing home fans.

This was a really poor result for us. I didn't think we played particularly badly (probably better than in the equivalent fixture last season!), but we simply weren't good enough to break down a side that defended resolutely and in numbers then tried to catch us on the break. That game plan worked for Boreham Wood today, and they certainly won't be the last team to adopt those tactics at GGL this season. We had most of the play in the first half, but after half-time we began to struggle to keep possession and that gave BW their opportunities. I thought Alan Pouton added presence and accurate passing to the midfield, but he did fade as the game wore on and was substituted in the second half. The combination of today's defeat and last Monday's is a big setback for Sutton. We've now got a two week break before we resume league action, and we then play five of the current top six.

We only played any kind of football for the first 15 minutes, after that Boreham Wood got what they deserved - all three points.
We must retain possession better. Far too many times balls were struck long from too deep a position, by-passing the midfield completely. Not the best when we have one of the top midfield men in the division making his debut this afternoon.
I heard many people today say certain players did well and others did badly - few of which I actually agreed with! We must get some consistency from somewhere or we will struggle to make an early impression in the league.
C'mon boys, we can do better!

Definitely agree with the presence that he added to midfield, he'll get better and better. He's obviously getting up to match fitness as I think he hasn't played this season until yesterday?

I'm disappointed with the lack of movement and imagination. AJ2 didn't have a very good game, playing very narrow and not giving Hawes an outlet when he was regularly getting the ball out ot him from Scrives, When AJ had the ball pushing on also there was rarely an option and we did ending up lumping the ball high to the grateful defence who mopped it up easily almost everytime.
Maybe we need to be more patient as a team and keep the ball, go back and rebuild the play again. The movement is the biggest issue IMO, we've done it well this season but didn't look interested yesterday.

As worrying as anything to me is our lack of strikes on goal in the last two matches. At Wealdstone we had only one direct shot in the match, from which Steffan scored, and yesterday their goalkeeper did little more than collect crosses and overhit long balls. I understand there were a number of scouts there yesterday. If they were looking for strikers perhaps they need to come back on another day.
