You bet. Danny Phillips controlled the ball with his arm before tucking it away. However, after their 9's cynical foul on Matt Hann, they deserved little sympathy.
Keister's second yellow for a second bout of dissent probably cost them in extra time.
The match was no classic but it was a decent cup tie. Their second goal was a good bit of play & U's first was good too with Gargan setting up Payne's cross for Matt Hann to finish. Sony Cobbs winner was a wel placed shot into the corner too.
I think Dos said that we rode our luck tonight. Maybe, but as I said above 'Gate deserve little sympathy when they adopt the tactics that they used in both matches once they were in front.
They will complain about the ref but tbh, the handball call was the lino's as the ref didn't appear to have a clear view. They should really be moaning about Keister, who, for an experienced player let his club down tonight.
Oh, yeah, good support tonight, a positive response from Saturday.

Well, we got there in the end but had to work bloody hard for this result. It was a game that ebbed and flowed with both sides having spells of dominance. As at Hartsdown Park we conceded from a free kick towards the end of the first half, trailed 2-1 for most of the second, and scored an equaliser close to the 90 minute mark. Then Margate's midfield enforcer John Keister foolishly got his marching orders, but even with the extra man in extra time we struggled to impose ourselves until a spell of pressure created the breach for Sonny Cobbs to spare us penalties. The players must be knackered, but need to pick themselves up for another hard game at Tonbridge on Saturday. It looks as if we'll be without Alan Bray who went off injured in the second half.

They're doing their pieces on the 'Gate forum. Reckoned the ref was from Sutton & moaning about the 6 mins injury time. Well, they should have a good look at their players over the two matches whose time wasting tactics caused the added time in the first place. It is no coincidence that both games had 6 mins added on. Yes, there were genuine injuries but there was alot of other stuff going on too.

Actually, the ref didn't add much to the second half, it didn't kick off until 8.52pm and ended before 9.40. Yes, there was a handball for the goal but the ref had earlier missed a cast iron penalty for the defender grabbing Stefan around the waist and picking him up. When we got the ball down we played quite well in spells, it just spent too long in the air.

From Margate's point of view they have made themselves more difficult to play against adding more of a physical aspect to their game and Terry Yorath has to be given credit for that. But no matter what Gate fans say for the majority of the 2 games they were under the cosh, they battled hard to stay in the games but lack anything other than brute force. I don't blame them because of what happened in their first few games of the season they needed to stiffen up and create a side that can compete in the RP and I think they have done that. We have a very young side who play a completely different style of football but have struggled on occasions to win the right to play it and our lads should take a lot of credit for passing the physical test and eventually winning through. I know it was a tough game tonight with ET but I reckon it will do us more good then harm in the long run. Over the 2 matches the better side won without a shadow of a doubt

Hugely relieved with the outcome last night. The FA Cup is massively important for clubs like us providing excellent prize money per round and giving the chance of all important profile- raising if we get through the qualifying rounds. Winning in it also provides momentum for the League campaign I believe.
For a long period last night, the haunting spectre of our defeat to Heybridge Swifts in this competition a few years ago was threatening to reappear.
Let's hope we can look back in November after a good FA Cup campaign from a strong position in the League and say those two late goals acted as a springboard for our season.

Interesting reading the 'Gate forum. They are speculating that Stef Payne may have been inillegible (spelling, LOL?) if he signed for FFC yesterday and was then loaned back.
One guy reckons we're cheats! Yorath reckons they were the better side, when I would have at best said it was even-stevens on the chances - as lead the Kentish reporter has a little more perspective in his report!!
Yeah, we know the use of the arm, intentional or not, was illegal & helped DP set up his equalizer but one of their guys grabbed hold of Stefan in the box & got away with it, so swings & roundabouts. There was also a blatant handball by a 'Gate player down the Collingwood Road end, he slapped the ball away, ffs.
They say Keister was sent off for swearing. If so, why wasn't it a straight red? A yellow is normally dissent & dissent does not have to involve the use of swearing - he got a second yellow.
'Gate are a massively improved side since the opening day of the season but hard work alone does not win you prizes.
No doubt we will feel aggrieved as they do a couple of times this season but as I stated earlier, their no 9's cynicism negates any sympathy I would have with their misfortune last night.

I've already responded to set their minds at rest.

I've already responded to set their minds at rest. I've just read your post on the Margate forum, Dave. Smart work to set the record straight, and it seems to have been appreciated by at least one Margate fan.
