The Ressies won 5-0 against Ashford Town ( Middlesex) in the Surrey Premier Cup 2nd Round on Tuesday night ( Jerson Dos Santos scored a hat-trick ).................further details to follow I would love Dos to bring these lads through like Wenger does in cup matches like the SSC and LC, I think it gives the 1st team a rest, gives the reserve lads a chance to step up and get 1st team action. We don't know what will happen Saturday but if the Horsham game goes ahead I would be more then happy to see Jerson and co play a big role in the game? Its also a good opportunity to silence those who say that these players don't get their chance!

replay wouldn't be for 10 days so no reason for them not to get a chance. I see harry o is captain of the captain of the ressies now. Sounds like he's doing well. Not had much chance to watch them but what i saw last night the looked good, knocking the ball about well.

I agree with os, the SS Cup and the L Cup are examples of where the Club could blood many reserve team players. Popped down to watch training last Thursday to have a look at the facilities. All in all an impressive set-up, with all three teams (First, Second and Youths) accommodated and the training was pretty intense and very committed. My own view is that Steve G is a key figure and it is essential that the Colts, Youth team and Reserves are recognised as the bedrock for football development at the Club. At the present time the gap between the standard of the first team opposition and the reserves is not as great as in the past so the chance should be there to give back-up players an opportunity, even if it is limited to the competitions mentioned before ( as long we don't moan if it doesn't work out). A big test and an important game for the Club tomorrow so let's give the Youths some support at Kingsmeadow. A high standard of youth football is so important, especially for a Club like Sutton. Not only does it provide players for the first team through the player development system but it also attracts the better players from other sides. Dos has referred to us as a Club that has the right attitude to player development and it is essential that we place great emphasis on maintaining that reputation. Sorry, just realised that what I have written sounds a bit like "preaching to the converted", it must be because I am emersed in editing the FDP.

Harry Ottoway and Tony Cuff both played at conference south level and i was very impressed especially by Cuff before he left us.

yes, he's not fully fit yet, presume he missed a bit of the start of the season. It was a difficult time when those mentioned played. We deserved to go down as we weren't strong enough, probably had too many youngsters in the side at the time and when things changed last season the lure of first team football had bitten. Good to have them back, though i know harry has been back a while and if dos will give them a chance in the cups and he is impressed enough i'm sure they get first team opportunities.

Just a thought but it seems to me that generally the reserve league is a separate part of non league football as being used every now and again to give a first team squad player a run out as the actual reserve players rarely get a chance to move up because the merry go round of so called 1st team squad players moving from one club to another fill the gaps the 1st team managers require, but these players are not always better than what are already at the club and playing in the reserves, i do think this certainly is the case here.
