Just wanted to add my thanks to Dos and the team for all there efforts yesterday. I don't know what match the guy who wrote the report in the NLP was watching, but it wasn't the same one I was watching. I think we deserved something from the game, but couldn't in the end break down their 10 man defence! Did we really only have 205 supporters (methinks someone can't count!) Mind you from the scowls their security guys kept giving us near the end, some of us may have hid in fear!! . Good luck to them in the next round, they obviously need the money for the ground, but do they really have to charge those prices for refreshments! Is Gavin happy to keep warming the subs bench, surely he wants to be playing? Haven't they got a reserve team? Anyway a great day out and great noise from our fans. It really was a case of "You only sing when your winning!!" ;D

I've been told by Nick the Greek (Firm Leader) to emphasize that new members King Dong, Prince Ding-a-Ling and Burtie the Groomer are nickname tbc. I'm more than happy if you want to come up with something other than "The Groomer". I'll be honest - it's not the nickname I've always dreamed of having. I agree with Dos' assessment - we just couldn't quite carve out an outstanding chance, and in hindsight their going down to 10 men probably wasn't as much an advantage as it would've been against lesser opposition. But a great effort from the boys and they can really hold their heads high. Bit of a shame that the view of the pitch was so limited from Sutton end. Had a great day, and particularly enjoyed Nick The Greek's traditional family jelly - you must give me the recipe - though I think it might be partly responsible for me waking up this morning feeling like a pig had shat in my head.

On the subject of the facilities provided yesterday; I can't believe all "away" ends at League 2 grounds can be as spartan as what we experienced yesterday? The one turnstile, toilet and refreshment facilities were quite prehistoric (though the view of the game wasn't all that bad IMO). I do also agree that shuffling along in that wasteland for a ludicrously priced cup of tea was hardly 2009!
Compare that to our experience in the local boozer around the corner before the game, "The Herdsman". Pleasant service and a full english breakfast including four rashers of bacon, two sausages, fried egg, beans, hashed brown, two slices of toast and a mug of Rosy Lea all for the princely sum of £2.60. Hereford United: cup of mediocre tea served in a side alley next to pre-war toilets - £1.70!
Maybe the landlord of The Herdsman should proffer his services to HUFC to operate their refreshment outlets for a small fee. Everyone would be a lot happier and business would boom!
That said, despite the extraordinarily graceless observations from just one or two of their fans on this site I found the locals very welcoming indeed...there just weren't enough of them there.
Good luck to them in the next round; hopefully they'll spend some of the money they won to spruce the place up a bit!

The turnstile alleyway was a bit cramped for my liking, not good if you're claustrophobic! And that whole away area behind the terrace was pretty small, but the stewards were certainly good to us and the tea hut ladies were pleasant, even if the prices weren't! The view wasn't fantastic, though I wouldn't have swapped it for a seat upstairs! That empty far end is a sorry sight, why do they not use it??

Have just read the report on the game in the NLP. My god! It reads as if we were not in the game When were Hereford 'controlling the play' in the second half They sat back and played the counter attack. Was this guy watching the same game as the rest of us? So much for objective journalism.

Fellow Ewes. Just writing to thank you for a awesome day out yesterday. Esp amber aleman who became the Sutton Ewes good pub guide for the day. Was really good to finally put some faces to the names on the forum for one, and also meet up with some old faces (not saying the you have old faces). I thought that we held a very good account of ourselves and at the end of the day it was the difference in divisions and skill that shone through at the end of the day. Maybe we could have had a few decisions go our way but hey, thats the luck and magic of the cup eh? I wish I could post a comment on how the burgers were (its Ewes tradition to have a cheese burger at half time) but unfortunally when I rolled up to the pitiful shack that called itself a catering service I was informed that the burgers were gone - THIS WAS EVEN BEFORE THE HALFTIME WHISTLE HAD BEEN BLOWN! Instead the Ewes had to settle for a nuked pie that left me with 2nd degree burns inside my mouth. It just goes to show what a great bunch of travelling support we get as I dont even remember hearing any of thier chants. Till next time Tomoevans

So much for objective journalism. Sorry I thought Hereford did control the game. They were one up down to ten men and they rarely let us have a chance throughout the game. It was a very spirited display from the team, I can't fault their effort. The fact is they were sharper and stronger than us in every department. I was proud of the team, the fans, and my club: Sutton United

Well I don't think there is much I can add, except that we didn't perform like a team 60 places lower in the league structure. Unlike last year when I thought against Notts County we couldn't have got anymore than we did, this year I felt we could have, but in addition to us actually being unable to break down their defence, there were a lot of pinball which just didn't fall our way - sometimes if these balls falls a yard either side we'd have had a clear chance. But thems the breaks in football, and after a totally barron period we've got to the first round of the FA Cup twice in 2 years, which for a club at our level is a HUGE achievement. We didn't progress because we didn't take our chances - in spells in the 2nd half, we had quite a few!
As Wealdstone had just gone out, that ends Ryman league involvement in the FA Cup, and we'd drawn 1 and won 4 to get just to this stage. No embarressment, no shame at all. I do still think that if Saturdays team played against Notts County, we'd have been up at Meadow Lane, and even if we had got a replay, I don't think we would have won this time around. The sending off gave us our chance, they went a lot more defensive, so the real decisive thing, as Dos said was the early goal. There were a lot of players yesterday who would have learnt loads, especially Billy Hawes, who was my Man of the Match. His tears at the end spoke volumes as someone who worked hard, played well and was left unrewarded, but now doesn't want to feel that disappointment again.
If we didn't get lucky against Margate, we wouldn't have had yesterday, and even though we were disappointed at the end, it was yet another day to be proud.
Amber Aleman said a very good comment at the end, which is something I strongly believe "If we can play like that, we will have no trouble getting to the play offs" Dos and AP's biggest job is getting that through to the players.
As for Hereford - the numpty posting on here goes against every Hereford person I spoke to yesterday - polite and friendly. Yes their ground is a bit of a poohole for league 2, but remember really they are not long a league side (anyone remembering going to Plough Lane when they played first division football there will know what a non league ground that was!). But saying that, there is a charm and character about the ground which I rather liked, even though we were penned in, and the smoking policy was laughable! \ Onwards and upwards to the RLC, where fringe players will get a chance to stake their claim
Well done to supporters, players and officials of Sutton. Against you did us all pround, and were a good advert for our level of football

Not much to add to the above in terms of the match, the U's collective effort and the result.
Have to say that the three experiences I have had at Edgar St have made me realise why I watch NL footy. Rip off prices, stewards who wouldn't open the gate ay ht to let us sad smokers have a puff (too worried about getting into trouble with their boss) & toilet facilities that made our spartan ones look palatial. There was a bigger queue for the bog than the tea bar.
The view was ok though & I enjoyed my rant at the lino in the second half. He was nowhere near keeping up with play at times. I found it extraodinary for that level that he could be so far behind play.
Back to the league now & concentrate on what really matters this season - the play-offs.

You could just not smoke for 90 minutes... Crazy idea i know If i could go back in time to have another go i would like to have seen how the game would have panned out if we'd slung on a striker and gone 4-4-2 in the last half an hour as i think it would have made a difference and we'd be talking about a replay. Whether you pick the young hopeful or the old head as that striker is another big question. I probably would have used the Stefan Payne argument on Jerson and slung him on to have a go rather than Watts but there you go. Great day out though, lets make the first round proper an annual event again Although based on the last two years, i would say that in the same way that the Conf South is the top of proper non-league part time football, the Second round of the FA Cup is the realistic limit for any part time side now as the athletic ability of the pro players means that even if you match teams for footballing talent, commitment and luck, you'll still come up short for fitness and physical size most of the time.

Good day out yesterday. Train journey up was fun and had the company of the drunken & happy Welling crew on the way home from Worcester after. The game, I dunno. I thought it was a poor match. They weren't great, but we never really got the opportunity to test 'em after giving away such a rubbish goal so early on. Undoubtedly plenty of effort for the 90 mins, but we definitely lacked in a few areas though. Little disappointed we didn't have a right go at 'em when they went down to 10 as well, but hey ho! Good turn out on the away terrace. Made plenty of noise too. Back to the league now. And we've really REALLY got to push on now. Need a good winning run to get us fired up the table. Oh, OS, when Stefan was given his 'goodbye' in front of the stand last week, he was definitely limping, so I doubt he was fit even if we'd wanted to use him yesterday.
