Who Is Michael Gordon?
So Who Is former Gunners youth star Michael Gordon?
Chris Sutton has signed Michael Gordon on a permanent deal until the end of the season, he did so yesterday on the lads 25th birthday, giving him a return to league football as his main present. League sides are permitted to sign non league players outside of the transfer window which means he will not add to the loan quota and is likely to start on the right wing on Saturday.
Michaels's form for Surrey based Merstham FC has seen him score seven goals in16 appearances so far this term with just as many assists. Ian Pearce`s connections (Fulham FC scouting network) down that way alerted the management to him, they liked what they saw and invited him up for training. Two weeks later they have seen enough to feel he warranted a deal. His pace stamina and crossing ability can do more than a job in League 2.
Michael`s natural wide ability begs the question as to how he has fallen through the leagues so quickly and why he has had so many clubs. Having started out at Arsenal he failed to make the grade, despite being an England U15 regular, as so many British born players do. He then made 19 starts for Wimbledon in the championship as a promising teenager in a struggling side. Swindon liked what they saw, signed him put never played him. Disillusioned with the game he went part time, initially on trial, with Havant & Waterlooville who offered him a permanent deal. Aldershot Town then moved for him but let him go to Sutton United who lost him to AFC Wimbledon. They then let him go to Harrow Borough, ditto Hemel Hempstead Town, Northwood and Croydon Athletic.
This term he found himself in the Ryman League Division 1 South with Merstham but he has well and truly found his feet again scoring 7 and assisting with more in their opening 16 games. Ian Pearce`s new found South-West London network had him on the radar but felt he was not good enough for Fulham to sign him. Just proves its not what you know but who you know in football. The management team took him on a two week trial and he has looked good in training as well as during his limited match action. Yesterday the duo offered him a deal until the end of the season with today a rest day for the squad.
Michael is determined to make it back into the Football League and will get his first chance to prove himself on Saturday. He will be cup tied for the rest of the season having played for Merstham in the preliminary round against Faversham. With the Cureton deal still more off than on Jamie Clarke will again get the chance to partner The Beast in a traditional 4-4-2 this weekend after a starring role last week.

Scored a superb goal for us at Worthing, must have been a friendly, I think it was in Ian Hazel's spell IIRC.
