Probably most famous for his time in charge of the great non-league Wimbledon FC side in the mid seventies, collapsed and died yesterday afternoon, it has been reported on various non-league sites.
He was involved at Champion Hill, under the somewhat dodgy chairmanship of Dave Milsted in the late eighties.
He ran the bars at Champion Hill, and was responsible for putting up the beer to a pound a pint, making us the most expensive Isthmian League bar at the time.

"Probably most famous for his time in charge of the great non-league Wimbledon FC side in the mid seventies, collapsed and died yesterday afternoon, it has been reported on various non-league sites." Was there not also a link between Mr Batsford and Walton & Hersham. Was it him and a few of their players (including Dave Bassett) who moved from W&H to Plough Lane? He really did get a great non-league side together in the 70's. RIP AB (no not you ab)

Indeed, he did. Took the likes of Bill Edwards (Billy Edwards' dad), Roger Connell, Kieron Somers, Dave Bassett & Willie Smith with him to Plough Lane. I think he was in charge when Walton& H won the AC in 1973.

Walton & Hersham also knocked Sutton out on the way - 3 - 0 at GGL in the 4th Qualifying Round.

Billy AT LAST we can agree on something. ;D They were good days down at W&H and what followed after that will NEVER happen again. I believe you and I started watching at GGL around the same time. Tuesday nights either down the Lane or in some bone shaking car travelling across London to the likes of Hendon, Walthamstow Avenue etc. Before the M25 became a blight on the countryside. I always skipped football training if the U's had a game (a bit of a twinge boss !!) but I always managed to be fit enough to play on the Saturday and Sunday.

I'm not sure about the AT LAST ! Just a difference of opinion about the merits of a couple of front men and with all due respect as a Leicester man you are biased, and quite rightly so.
There is nothing to disagree with in this thread as all my postings are just plain facts.
I do agree with your opinion of Darts though.Cricket is my favourite sport by a country mile nowadays though for decades it was always Cricket and Football but not any more.
Happy New Year Filbert - and everybody else xxxxxxxxxxx

And of course Willie Smith and Colin Woffinden played for the U's under Sid Cann.

The 'Morris' in the team was my friend and work mate, Dave. He was playing for Dagenham when we first met and might have gone to the '72 (?) Olympics but for an injury. They finished up taking 'all the teachers' (his words), Ted Powell etc. Last Amateur Cup final winners and famously beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 (?) when Brian Clough and Peter Taylor were managing them. Dave became a client of mine in the late nineties/early noughties, involved in Engineering Oil Drilling Rigs but has since retired to Cyprus.
