I've been alerted to this article on the AFC Wimbledon site!
Following the announcement last week that Milton Keynes has been included in the list of host “cities” for the England 2018 World Cup bid, the board has been considering how best to articulate the anger, hurt and disappointment felt by Wimbledon supporters and our friends in football. As well as being an insult to Wimbledon – to add to our existing injury – we believe that this decision damages the England 2018 bid.
The board has written to the various members of the football establishment in England – the FA, Premier League and Football League as well as the Department for Culture Media and Sport and the England 2018 committee itself – expressing our outrage at this reward for franchising. This decision cannot be allowed to stand and all of these bodies should take steps to ensure that it is reversed.
We want England 2018 to succeed. But, with the world watching, if the bid continues to include Milton Keynes in its proposed list of hosts, it will undermine all the values of integrity, fairness and decency which we like to associate with the home of football. We encourage Wimbledon supporters, and our friends in football, to write to the authorities and express your views. While there is no need to hide your anger, please make sure you keep within the bounds of civility: we can win this argument without resorting to abuse.
