Doesn't surprise me at all. Basically HMRC have lost patience and want their money asap. I think there will be more clubs to follow. We could get promoted if we finished outside the play off places as they may be quite a few gaps to fill!!

I have been following the situations at both AFCHx and Lewes throughout the season, Lewes need a miracle either in or before court on Wednesday, they have no assets not even the seats, stands or floodlights belong to them. Lewes gained a 2nd stay of execution last August by promising to meet a payment schedule which they have failed to do, they are not in a position to get a loan as they have nothing to borrow against and the Judge is very unlikely to accept another restructure of the debt. This puts them in a similar situation to Kings Lynn and will almost definatly be wound up in the High court unless they pay the 48k which so far they don't have.
AFCHx play their cards very close to their chest but are on very rocky ground at the moment and I think the end is nigh for them too?

Very wealthy town, Lewes. Big brewery there as well which should cough up to save their local team (Harvey's).
The people of Lewes pride themselves on having a local 'Lewes Pound' which boosts local businesses. Shame they don't value local football as well.

Vern it was greed that got Lewes where it is now. Not sure what planet they were on when they employed Steve King as manager and brought in players from the steps above at inflated wages. They were never going to get planning permission to upgrade the Dripping Pan. One mega stand at one end, two banks at one end and one side coupled with no toilets in the clubhouse - situated at the back of their huge stand. Thank God for our covered GGL terrace with a proper seated stand down one side.

HMRC are now really starting to aggressively go after clubs with outstanding tax bills. Kings Lynn have already gone this season and I really can't see Lewes surviving this one.

It's very sad for the clubs involved and especially the supporters but isn't football desperately in need of a reality check ?
I'm thinking more of the higher echelons but it applies to everyone i suppose................

The problem is that clubs never learn. supporters very often put their hands in their pockets for the first time.....but when it happens again think twice.!! If your budget means that you can only afford to play in Sussex League...or the Rymans...then play there and be solvent. The problem is very ordinary players are paid far to much, and in many cases never deliver. You cannot really blame the players....its the clubs with rose tinted glasses.

New bloke at Weymouth has a 'long term' plan I see. Although he doesn't seem to mnetion how they're going to find that extra 750 grand inside 2 years to pay off the creditors, nor quite how the club that failed to self finance Conf Prem & FT football in the previous couple of years will be able to do so in the future..... news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_conf/8448943.stmFootball gets more ridiculous by the minute......

The future of local non league football is about being strong at the roots. So many Clubs are taken on by people as projects and the sad thing is that generally speaking from outside you can see the demise coming. The implementation of our Club's Football Development Plan is about growing the Club in a different way and its sucess will be vital in maintaining our strong roots and reputation within the local community. This Plan is about us lot. It's about getting more of us lot to assist in implementing the Plan and it's about developing the club in the right way. We have an excellent reputation in the Football world, even if part of that reputation is about being generally cautious, but there is an honesty and a strength about that approach which stems from the fact the people in control are not prepared to gamble the future of the club. We have all had the dream of winning mega bucks on the lottery and taking the Club to the heights but realistically there are things we can do to help the Club grow now. With the roll out of the Football Development Plan (hopefully reasonably soon) there will be many opportunities for fans to get involved and the aim will be to get lot's of people doing small amounts. If the Club is sucessful in achieving community status the significance of the award should not be underestimated as it is the FA's highest club award. So why not join the people already signing up to help the Club develop and move forward. The end. More benylin required please !

The trouble is with these clubs and there so called fans is they are full of themselves when they are knocking 4 or 5 past you on the way to the league title, while they are relegating you. I don't forget their attitude in our relegation year after tonking us 5-0, it was painful leaving the Pan that day which only added to a terrible season for us overall. To think they took 6pts from us on money they did not have which helped relegate us and cost us financially, although its not nice to see any club die they have no right to effect others who do stay within sensible budgets. Lewes only have a fan base of @300 on a good day and really should be somewhere around Rym1 certainly not and never have been a conf or cnf sth side. I hope the taxman has had enough and sends a real message to clubs that it is not acceptable. Its also about time that the leagues stop burying their heads and allowing clubs which clearly cannot sustain their spending to compete. Hx are a good example, how on earth do they get permission to compete when they clearly cannot show they can last the week let alone the season is beyond me?
Good riddens I say, and maybe these true supporters should also take a bit of responsibility when overspending is happening rather then waiting until the crap hits the fan to bleat!

The rumour out of Lewes now is that the 48k has been found and that HMRC have been paid, unconfirmed at present?

Some really good posts here. BTW didn't Weymouth have a long term plan a few years back? They really are punching under their weight whereas Hx and Lewes are trying to be big time charlies but they are really out of their depth. Whoever loaned the money to Lewes will want it back one day pretty soon.

Further to Weymouth's long term plan, their new Chairman tried to raid his old club for a player shortly after joining. Offered a fee & everything! WTF???
