We got a mention during half-time (Liverpool v Reading), somebody reminding Mark Lawrenson that he was involved with / playing for Moreton in front of fewer than one hundred people but Lawro pointed out that they did get to some round or other in the FA Cup before losing a replay to Sutton United, 1991 I think they said.
Any anoraks historians care to expand?

It was 1993/4, the year we reached the 3rd round losing 2-3 at Notts County. We started at the 4th Qualifying and drew 0-0 at home to Moreton, but won the replay 2-0 with both goals from Zak Newman. At the time Moreton were an up and coming team because a local entrepreneur had piled money into the club, hence Lawrenson's involvement. In fact they won the Hellenic League that season. A crazy situation because Moreton was a picturesque little village that could never support a major club. One year later he pulled his money out and Moreton went pop mid-season. Plus ca change . . . .

That replay was a bloody nightmare for me. Missed a key train on the way up thanks to a delay and arrived with 15 minutes left and with us already 2-0 up. Had to finish the journey as the only way home was the lift I'd arranged with one of the other lads who'd driven up!! The train up to Hereford stopped at Moreton this season, reminding me of that horrible journey.

Plus ca change . . . . I remember that drive through the Cotswolds well and finding this little ground surrounded by a fence. Nice clubhouse though. Think the guy put his money into Gloucester City later if I remember correctly. This scenario was similar to Colne in many ways although they folded because of ground grading.

I used to go past there when driving to Evesham, where I used to stay when at Cheltenham, pretty sure the ground was on the a40 and have a moreton rangers playing there last I saw, a youth team I think.
