A play off place and a good cup run would be nice.

I think we all yearn for a good cup run which brings in lots of dosh.To be in the top half of the table challenging would also be good.

Most of us feel that Sutton should be able to challenge for a play-off place. But we're discovering that this level is appreciably tougher than the Ryman, and I'm starting to wonder if we've been a little too optimistic about our prospects. Despite building what I thought was a decent team last season, Sutton still struggled to make much of an impact in the league.
We can ill afford to lose players of the quality of Matt Gray, and I'm sure IH realises that he needs to bring in some experienced new faces if we're to avoid a relegation battle next season.
I agree it's high time we had a decent cup run!

Let's be realistic, this is our level. The Blue Square Conference South Lower Premier League or whatever it's currently called is about where we should be. It is no doubt a tougher league than the Isthmian Premier (or the 'Rymans' Premier as some insist on incorrectly calling it) and yet still adequate for us. We survive as we are and can always hope to improve. Here's to our next good FA Cup run and the elusive SKY TV home game against lower league oppo. Brentford anyone?

I've actually said time after time that this is our level, and for years been asking for it. Too good for Ryman level, on the fringes of Conference National level. What's a cup run by the way?

I personally think we deserved easily to be a part of the Conf South when runners up but money has changed the Ryman league. I don't think we'd now be too good for the Ryman, you look at the Margates, Chelmsfords, Billericays, AFCWs down there and they have loads to spend and i think we'd struggle to compete with them. Play off contenders i'd say but title challengers? dunno.

Supporters of the following clubs may well say the same: Chelmsford, Billericay, Margate, Boreham Wood, Harrow Borough, Maidstone, Kingstonian, Dover Athletic, AFC Hornchurch, Canvey Island, Enfield Town, Bedford and Merthyr Tydfil. But all of these will be playing at Isthmian or Southern League level next season. There's simply not enough room in Blue Square South for all the clubs that think they should be there!

Yeah, I suppose I'm looking in the past really. Money rules today.

We just need to hang in there while the money thing works its way out as it will do in time. I think we should be a comfortable mid table side next season with anything else being down to the skill of the management. I got a lot of faith in Haze and knowing some of the players we maybe seeing in PSFs I think if he can get the blend right we have every chance of pushing for a playoff place. Remember 2003/04 we finished the best team by a mile against Hx Money and my favourite game from recent years against Canvey 3-1 we ripped em apart in their own back garden when they were unbeaten for months. They even filmed it for us, so it can be done money or not

That's a point OS. Andy K, you've STILL got my bloody Canvey DVD!
As for my opinion on our chances this season, i've not got one until after the Bromley game.

The money thing is not going to 'work it's way out' of this level of the game. Especially not now some f*cking daft satellite channel is going to be paying a nice few quid for televising games and competing in some poxy league cup comp. It's as simple as that.
People have been saying it for years yet MORE clubs keep on joining the 'stupid money club' whilst more and more sides go under year by year and less and less people give a sh*t.
This isn't a 'phase', it's now the norm. Get used to it.

I find it's unwise to make predictions ahead of knowing who will be in our team. However, only Yeading (who?) finished last season in worse form than us (one win in our last 10 matches remember), since when we have lost Matt and Tony and signed no-one. There's also seems to be some big money around (for this level), with Dorchester going full time and Bromley splashing the cash.
It was good to get Warren signed, but Haze will need to have some significant cards up his sleeve (and it ain't going to be easy to replace Matt in particular) if we are not to struggle this season.

Well pre-season training looks good, haze has them in on a saturday as well, dont remember John having them in pre season on a saturday, and Massey and Haze are certainly putting the fella's through there paces so this can only benefit the boys when the season starts,so fair play to Ian ,he has got it right on the Training ground.

Like Suttonview and Medibot have said it's difficult to make a prediction at this stage of pre-season. Obviously it was great news to keep Warren, but it's how we strengthen the whole team and replace Matt that will decide if we can rise above the relative mediocrity of last season. Hopefully it will all come good, and it looks as though the work to do that is being done.
