I read this article on the Tooting site. Maybe something we should consider?
Just out of interest, I would like to know what the reaction of our fans would be if we were to have an half price entry fee scheme to season ticket holders of other clubs here at Tooting & Mitcham?
With our home gates being disapointing, this idea is just a thought in an attempt to boost our attendances.
Hampton & Richmond have had this scheme at their place for quite some time now and I have been in touch with them about this to find out how well it is working for them and their reaction was very positive.
The situation at Hampton would be the same at Tooting. They, like us, have a lot of supporters in their area who follow Brentford, fulham etc and when those clubs have a long away trip, fans of those clubs go along to watch Hampton due to this scheme being in place, whereas if it wasn't they probably wouldn't.
As a result, Hampton get more supporters and revenue through their gates and have even gained new season ticket holders themselves from those clubs as a result of the scheme.
My thinking is that it would be in Tooting's good interest to try out this scheme ourselves, as a way of attracting new support and revenue from all those rogue supporters of other clubs around us, and the scheme should be stretched out to other fans from all leagues, professional and non-league.
I would like to see us experiment with this idea maybe with just a trial period to start with, but I do not know if or how much the club would have to lose by giving this scheme a go. Surely it must be worth a try to try and boost our attendances and coffers?
The one other possible barrier in the way could be the reaction of our supporters, particually our season ticket holders. How would you all feel out there about season ticket holders of other clubs gaining half price entry whilst you are paying full price?
The way I see it from my own point of view personally is that I would be perfectly happy, as a season ticket holder or full paying regular supporter, for other fans to be getting in cheaper than me because I know that this system, and those other fans, would be helping my club by boosting it's attendances, atmosphere and more importantly our gate receipts, because if they wasn't there due to this scheme we as a club would still be struggling for both.
Of course this idea is also open to some abuse, but the general feeling is that it has been good for Hampton so surely, with all those other fans around us, it would be good for us too.
But once again, it is something for you fans to have your say on first as we shouldn't upset and go against the majority wishes of our diehard supporters.
At the end of the day though, the club needs bigger crowds for bigger money as we must attract the local people, especially the younger generations, to our club before they wander off to AFC etc.
And regarding another idea out there, Mansfield recently offered their fans a 'Pay as much as you like' entry offer at a recent home game and recieved a cracking home crowd of over 7,000, so I may enquire to them about how successful that idea actually was to them in the end. Another scheme worth thinking about.
