Congratulations to the Sutton United Girls U10's team who won The Surrey County Girls Premier League on Sunday morning with a 1-0 win over title rivals Barnes FC.
The girls are unbeaten in the league all season and have just 3 games left so fingers crossed they can go the whole season undeafeated.
This is the only girls side that Sutton United have and they really are a credit to the club, both in their football ability and also the way they conduct themselves whilst wearing the Sutton United colours.
Being a parent of one of the girls and therefore present at all games it really is amazing what other people say about this team. Recently at an away game in Reigate, we had one old chap come up to Donna (Sutton girls manager/coach) and said he loved the way the girls played, their passing and movement reminded him of the current Arsenal team. To which Donna replied " Thank you, but I think we sometimes overplay and should get our shots off sooner !! "
One classic comment I overheared at a recent home match against Molesley was from this guy who came across the match whilst walking his dog. He stood by the touchline for a couple of minutes observing the game when he suddenly turned round and said to his wife (who had been walking behind him catching him up) "$@*! me luv, have you seen these girls play. They are unbelievable " When I told him they were the U10's team he was astonished.
So a big well done to the team and a massive thank you for the incredible amount of hard work put in by coach Donna Williams ( who often comes straight from working a nightshift to train the girls on Sat mornings), Harrison Williams for assisting Donna with goalkeeper coaching and pre-match warm-ups and Paul Williams for stepping in for some coaching sessions when Donna is unavaliable through work commitments. And finally to all the parents who ensure the kids are always on time for Tues & Sat training and for taking the girls to all the matches all over Surrey every Sunday morning.
I think that's about it.......... Oh, there is one more thing, not sure if I mentioned that the girls are also in the Surrey County Cup Final to be played at Chipstead FC on May 16th !!!!!
GO SUTTON !!
