Stokey, the suggestion of a Bring a Mate Day (the original suggsted title was " Come with a mate" ) is sound and I think could be a runner. The more experiened supporters among us could I'm sure muster quite a few. Many current supporters will know people who used to watch but have got out of the habit of going. If I put myself out I could muster at least half a dozen (some of whom were not just watchers but also worked to support the club). Once they get back into it you never know.

Doublebarrel - if you can get 6 people down every now and again that would be magic! At the end of the day this is one of the only ways to get increased numbers into the ground. Every regular fan has a first game, even if 1 in 10 come back regularly that is a lot of increased revenue over several years. The only other way to increase the support is by having a successful team which as we know is hard work! Odd initial post - seemed almost like a wind up but yet most was all very positive. Anyhow at least it has had some positive results. Hopefully the play off game(s) will attract a few through the gate.

The club are very proactive. I knew a few who had stopped watching the U’s. When I mentioned it to an official they sent complimentary tickets to their home address.

I've managed to get a few mates to come in the past, but I only invite them to the biggest games. The one time I broke this rule was the Tonbridge FAT match. I was telling them for days after that it was the poorest match I'd seen in three seasons, yet no success.

For once I can stand a little on the moral highground in this case - in my time at Sutton I've probably introduced between 30-40 people to Suttons games. In my first season of coming (87) I was brought by a mate and i agree its the best and most effective way to get new people coming to games. There are a couple who come to most of the games now, but even though who by circumstance can't get to a game, still follow Sutton. A perfect example is my niece Ellie, who some of you would have met. I'm with her in New Zealand at the moment, and I brought her a girls special Sutton scarf. She was over the moon, and considers herself to be a Sutton supporter (much to the chargrin of her dad, a kiwi rugby fan!).
I agree that sometimes getting a mate down to a "smaller game" can be a bit of a risk, but even people that I've done that with will now take notice of sutton scores whenever they appear.
I also make a habit of taking a sutton top with me wherever i go around the world - ok a Sutton away top nearly got me duffed up at a Rangers Uefa game in cyprus once, but by the same token, it got me loads of free sangrias at the fan park in Berlin for the World Cup Final in 2006. You can't underestimate the power of nailing yoru colours to the mast wherever you go. If that didn't happen we'd prob have no Swedish Chapter, No Gambia and a much lower profile.

Try explaining to a Greek or an Egyptian, South African or Zambian for that matter who Sutton Utd are! I take my shirt all over the place and it always strikes up at least one conversation. The little Maldivian bar man bless him was somewhat confused with the whole 'There is life below Man Utd thing.'

I've seen five Sutton mates drift away from coming to matches. Three moved away from the area and two gave up watching, after the poor season in the conference south. To be honest I was coming to matches that season and was wondering why I was still turning up! Poor football, poor results The upside is my son is now a fanatical supporter who has managed to encourage four mates to watch the U's. All but one are now season ticket holders. The future is bright

I am responsible for introducing Gareth Miller to SUFC. Make of that what you will.

lol
I have not worn my shirt abroad - but agree whenever I wear it people ask about it the 'best' was earlier this season when at Whealdstone (I think) Newcastle were playing in London and a few fans asked if they could have their picture taken with me, I agreed and it was all slaps on the back etc.
Then they asked if I wanted mine taken with them .................................. they were not too impressed with my no response!!!!

Indeed, I actually found myself covering the lower half of the face to check the likeness without the 'tache and...yes! A perfect example is my niece Ellie, who some of you would have met. I'm with her in New Zealand at the moment, and I brought her a girls special Sutton scarf. She was over the moon I can absolutely imagine that! She loves pink and she loves Sutton ;D
