Was wondering if anyone could explain the relegation/promotion situation after Chester's expulsion, and the knock on effect? I see that Weston have gone down but am hopeful that they will stay in the Conference South if we get the result we are after at the end of the season If only to sink a few ales in their public houses. I tried to think about it myself but it made my head hurt

I think the short, simple answer is "no one really knows"!! Wait & see what the FA\Leagues decide is probably the best bet. Less head hurty as well.....

I'll have a bash!!
Chester going means only 3 down from bsp, kngs Lynn and farsley Celtic going means 3 teams with most points at bottom of bsn or bss repreived and the same in ryman, southern and northern as no other clubs have fallen by the wayside yet.
If relegated sides don'tfit into the divisions equally then clubs on league Borders could be moved across divisions

Slight alteration Kings Lynn were Northern Prem not BSN when they went so it's two down from BSN/BSS thanks to Chester and Farsley.
Aswell as Kings Lynn, Newcastle BS also folded so their will be 4 teams saved from Ryman/Northern/Southern!!
Easy really!

Cheers for the replies folks. Weston look screwed as they are a few back on Vauxhall Motors. Must be a bit weird looking out for their results on a Saturday afternoon!

The more i look at it the more i think i'm wrong!!
As Farsley have already gone (relegated if you like) from that level another side can't be reprieved so maybe only 1 will get a reprieve, seemingly giving Weston little chance this year.
So that would also mean only 2 saved from our level.
"Sutton" was right, it's bloody complicated!!

As I have said earlier - 1) all clubs with problems should be re-instated at Step 7 2) no club should be reprieved. Bottom 3 or 4 should be relegated as per league rules at start of season 3) clubs near the top of divisions should be given an extra promotion slot (extra play off games?) 4) ambitious clubs (well run and with no sugar daddies) are being penalised lower down the pyramid I have now confused myself

I have to disagree with Filbert that a club finishing in a relegation place should always be relegated. I know it's a view held by others. But if you don't give the adminstrators some discretion to reprieve clubs then you create a recipe for chaos.
Take the Blue Square North as an example. It's already one club short because of Farsley Celtic's demise. You might sensibly assume they would have occupied one of the relegation places and so relegate two rather than the usual three. You'd look to promote three as usual, two from the Unibond League and one from the Zamaretto. So far so good.
But consider the possibility (mentioned in my Ups and Downs thread) that no club is relegated to BS North. That's quite likely as Chester City have gone bust, and the bottom three in BS Premier are all currently southern clubs. You couldn't replace the two clubs promoted to BS Premier with relegatees and so would be two clubs short. You might be able to move two clubs sideways from BS South, but there might not be any candidates. So what do you do? Promote the two play-off runners up from the Unibond and Zamaretto? But what if the play-off runner-up in the Zamaretto is Bashley, on the south coast? You'd be a laughing stock if you tried to stick them in the BS North. You could promote two from the Unibond, but that could be unfair if you thereby overlook a Zamaretto club that had done better in the play-offs than one of the Unibond clubs.
In the circumstances it would be fairer to reprieve one or two from the BS North - and the same principle applies further down the pyramid. Otherwise you risk creating geographical anomalies or not being even-handed with promotions.

Fair points AA. You are right in saying that teams losing points would probably get relegated anyway. My gripe is the historical fact that some teams get away with it year after year. Also my main point would be to put these teams down to the equivalent of the CCL and therefore give more teams the chance of progress. Whichever way you do it some teams will get a bad call. I am glad I don't make the rules.

Looks like we are back to square one with regards to sorting this out! Back to the wait until the end of the season plan it is!
