I think we have to give credit in a way to Concord. They set up with a game plan and it worked perfectly for them. We were limited to just a few chances and they created only one proper shot on target if memory serves.
Our game plan clearly did not work quite as well as our posession did not turn into the amount of chances that it should have but its early days. Lets remember, it was their first day in the Ryman Premier and their game was probably raised to it's maximum level.
I dont know if they will sustain it all season but i doubt they will be a pushover at home this season.

The match reminded me of the Waltham game at home last season - the opponents knew in all parts of the pitch they were the weaker team, and at the end of the game must feel a bit lucky to have a point, but as already said, give them credit for shutting us out. We did fail to break down sides like this last season, and it was part of our undoing, but a point against a team who raised their game and we really had very little knowledge of (no luxury of a scouting trip of any worth to feed into us) on a bumpy pitch and its not a disaster. I do think on the evidence I saw today that Corcord will be struggling this season.
As for us, Dos knows what he needs to do and I would expect a much more attacking match on Tuesday against Horsham, and Saturday against Folkstone. There was not any real concerns on the pitch, apart from Page being caught for pace a couple of times at the back and some poor corners from Dunford (albeit they got better as the game went on). The yellow cards were a little silly, but most players did their job today. Dundas still has that ability to create a chance out of nothing, and Bradley looked really fired up when he came on.
Bit annoying in the last 10 mins from a minority of our fans going on about Concord timewasting or the ref making craps decisions against us. I thought the ref was ok (a little card happy) and apart from a blatant obstruction on Jolly near the end, nothing really wrong. I know it was born out of frustration but have a bit of a reality check people - we'd had 80mins previously where we'd failed to put the ball in the net, and that was the issue, rather that the entire Ryman league conspiring against us!
By this time next week we could, and should be on 7 points out of 9. Lets make sure we cheer the lads on to get there

Am I the only person who thought Concord were more than comfortable in getting their point?
Rarely troubled and bar Davis' piledriver and Dunford's blocked shot, we had very little to show for a lot of huff & puff.
Also, can we stop monaing about f*cking pitches. Seriously. We're playing at the 7th level of English football, they're not going to all be finely manicured country lawns, deal with it. Having said that, we rarely tried to get it down & play yesterday anyway and just pumped it long a lot of the time. You ain't going to break sides like Concord down if thats the way you're going to play. End of story.
I said it last season. If the oppo aren't going to be very adventurous, it's down to US to make things happen, it's down to US to make chances, it's down to US to go out & win the game.
I thought yesterday that despite having had most of the ball we could still be there now and not have scored. Mildly concerned that 3 of the back 4 all picked up bookings as well.
A point is a point, but we're going to need a big improvement in both tempo and quality for tuesday.

Ah, but you don't count, you used that old trick of turn up at Half-Time so that you can get in for free lol............the "recorded" figure only includes those who were there for the full 90 mins !!

Lump it or like it Taz, for August the pitch was poor. Needed another good mowing if you ask me.
Concord was probably the least ambitious home side I've seen in years and the onus was always going to be on U's to get the goal. Unfortunately a lack of quality in the last third meant that was not to be.
Still, a promoted side at home against a top 5 side from last season was never going to make it easy and they didn't. Neither side was allowed to play much football.
Seven bookings in agame that was far from "dirty" but the ref, who I thought had a good game for the most part, had little choice with any.
Reading Concord's report in the NLP the author reckoned Sam should have gone for the tackle he got booked for and then got away with another poor challenge later on.
Not sure from my viewing point about the first and I don't remember the second.

I thought the NLP report was rather biased towards the home team (nothing new there, of course : - was it really correct that the two sides were "toe to toe on chances throughout"? But, from where I was standing, Sam Page's challenge on their no.7 did look particularly nasty. Andy thought Concord Rangers were rather like Waltham Abbey last season. No surprise there as four of WA's side moved to CR this summer and three of them started against us yesterday!

Did I count as I turned up at 3.08 after breaking down on the approach to the DT. Was in middle lane and had to be pushed to the hard shoulder.

I thought the pitch was awful and was bordering on a dangerous playing surface, the unpredictability of the bounce lead directly to some of the yellows shown. I am not sure people are blaming the pitch for the result but it was certainly a factor, but if we have any serious intentions of winning the league we have to adapt and get the result and yesterday we didn't.
