I know there are comments about this match in another thread, but I thought it deserves one of its own.
This was our biggest win of the season, though Croydon Athletic looked the poorest side we've played in the league and it was hard to see how they recently manged to win three on the trot. We've now beaten them 8-0 on aggregate.
It was an open game, with the visitors troubling us with their pace in the early stages, but their defence was creaky and once we'd gone 2-0 up it was hard to see them coming back. We could even afford the luxury of a missed penalty by Forbes. When he got the third just before half-time the contest was as good as over.
The main worry was the injury to Bradley in the second half (possible ligament damage to the ankle), and it was noticeable that we carried much less attacking threat once he'd gone off. But we were 5-0 up by then. I hear that Tom Davis (substituted earlier) also picked up a knock.
Tonight's results suggest that the two Suffolk sides are the ones we need to be most concerned about. We could do with a full strength squad when Lowestoft come visiting next month.

Don't forget our friends from Tonbridge who have done well recently. Did i recently read that Dos has never seen Forbes miss a penalty!

I put that performance down as our worse of the season, really dissapointed, Used to getting beat , but not like that, the reason we are so annoyed is the fact we can, and have played so much better, anyway good luck for the rest of the season

Waddoneagle. Saw on your forum that you questioned the gate.
410 = sum of season tickets, comps used and paying customers on the night. If we assume that maybe 20 season ticket holders didn't turn up then "actual" crowd figure was probably around 390.
It may not have looked it, but anything up to about 500 gets swallowed up because of the size of the ground.

I think Croydon are the poorest side I've seen in a long long time. We did the basics right, but never really had to seriously exert ourselves. Once the OG went in, their heads went down and that was it.
Good that we kept the pressure on from then though, we could so easily have eased off after 2-0 and just took the points.
Win, clean sheet & GD bumped up a bit. That'll do.

Yeah not exactly a classic but it's always nice to see a few goals and get value for your tenner! You can only beat what's in front of you and it's so easy to slip to the level of the opposition and struggle a touch against weaker sides. This is something we're certainly guilty of on occasion, but not last night. Well done all for a professional display.

We cannot just assume we only need to turn up to beat teams in this league. Aveley have taken a Charlton Athletic forward on loan [he netted a hat trick last night against Canvey away] - Nothing in this league is a done deal !

KBB Just to confirm KBB concerns this is taken from the Canvey forum: Despite the result I quite enjoyed last night's match. The conditions were a real leveller, and the lad Tuna up front for them was class - he certainly looked like a big fish in a small pond....! You can see that Carl Griffiths has strengthened that side quite considerably since taking over, and I'd be very surprised to see them go down at the end of the season.

Obviously he's an excellent FIN-isher who's good at finding the NET. ;D I'd expect Aveley to be a tougher nut to crack than Croydon Athletic. They've got a much better defensive record, and it sounds as if they've now found someone to remedy their goalscoring deficiency. Last night's emphatic victory actually feels a bit flat, partly because of the injury to BWG, but also because other results didn't exactly go our way. At least Lowestoft's win at Hayes Lane has pegged Cray back a little.

Would like to add that your support is always class - as we've (unfortunately for you) had a few convincing wins against you in winning years, but you've always been good sports. Liked the "top of the league you're having a laugh"

I must say I think the croydon supporters have been great both to and for their club this season. Its not nice being bottom and getting battered 5-0 (we know) but they do show dignity and good humour.
Good luck to them for the rest of the season.
