Yeah, unfortunately the Surrey bowlers were not up to the task last night. Most of the season they have been very good, but last night not so. Mind you, as soon as we lost the toss I thought we might be in trouble, batting first is usually the best option at the Oval. Putting runs on the board is usually better than chasing. So on to Hove tonight, a place where Surrey very seldom have any joy.

Too many bowlers.Seven used last night and that's without de Bruyn who normally gets a bowl. It's only 20 overs it's ludicrous.

The wicket last night was probably one that had been used several times already this season. Some of the games I have watched on the TV from around the country have been played on wickets that were so low and slow 130 was a good score.

Yes , i'm sure that will be the format though it won't be decided until next year. They will definitely only play 10 group games though. I'd rather see an all in FA Cup style knockout with far less games.Surrey play the same teams year in year our. Better still they could scrap it altogether.

Better still they could scrap it altogether. But if they scrapped it completely then a lot of the counties would go bust and would not be a sustainable game! 2020 has done a world of good for cricket in more ways than one. I would prefer to watch a test match over a 2020 game any day of the week but unfortunately cricket needs the money and 2020 is where that money is now! 10 games will be a lot better as with 16, 8 home there are too many games so teams will get mediocre crowds at least next year the oval has more of a chance to be sold out for every 2020 game like it was 6/7 years ago!

Fair comment and all true.I have nothing against Twenty20 except that there is far too much of it .
The crowd turning up to watch it is the main sticking point for me.It's difficult to watch the game ! They only bat for 75 minutes but of course very few people can sit on their arse and watch it for that length of time.
Most people have a phone in one hand and a pint in the other while wandering around anywhere they feel like obstructing the view of the small percentage of punters who actually go to watch the Cricket.

no i completely agree there is far too much of it and I think the ECB have now realised that, because too much was having a detremental effect on the size of crowds and therefore the money that the club was getting each home game!

There were fairly big crowds at all Surrey's home games and a massive one at Lord's , the only away that i attended.
I have no way of knowing but i'd bet a lot more people came than last year which started with two home disasters.
None of them was anywhere near the "sell out" that the powers that be would have us believe though.
Personally i'd rather watch a second team game at Cheam or anywhere else local than Twenty20.

You're so right Billy; it was absolutely awful. I was on the end of a row and was apparently expected to watch the actual cricket through a knot of braying City boys who had congregated on the steps, not even looking at the game. In the end my boyfriend had to shout at them (three times) and eventually they moved away, muttering snidely "We'll stop annoying you now shall we?" And they weren't the only ones. A guy a few seats down from us actually got up and left about halfway through because he'd had enough of people pushing in and out so often he only got to sit for a few minutes at a time. He was clearly a proper cricket fan and most annoyed at the lack of etiquette. We agreed that it simply wasn't cricket.

Sorry to hear that Sally but i'm not surprised. We got there early and had front row seats on the end of a row downstairs in the pavilion.I don't like being that low down but obviously it means nobody is in front of you , also they tend to be Cricket fans around that area and there to see the game.
Your best bet is to go into the extreme left of the Bedser Stand , that's a spot we often use.You can go up there without being hassled about where your ticket is for and it's a great view with not many people around.
There is one more Championship 4 day game at The Oval this season , Derbyshire 12/15 September. If you and your boyfriend can make one of those days you are most welcome to a couple of my free tickets which come with Membership , i've got a few left.

I have to agree with the above and get most annoyed at the lack of etiquette used by many spectators. At the Oval the standard of stewarding around the ground differs greatly. It really pi$$es me off when I miss a wicket because some loud mouthed yob from the banking sector wants a pee or a refill during an over and we all have to get up to let him through. Once upon a time, before 20/20 cricket brought in crowds that wouldn't know their LBW from their backside, the stewards would not let you move into or out of a row during an over and they were GOD. Nowadays it is a lottery as to what type of steward you get for your section.
