Have just read that a compulsory winding up order is being served against Scarborough. They'll complete their fixtures this season but they won't compete in any league at all next season after racking up debts of around £2 million EDIT: The administrators of Scarborough Football Club are petitioning to force the club to close. The Seadogs won’t be competing in any football competitions from next season.
Scarborough’s fall from grace has been slow and painful, spending money in an attempt to claw back the League status they lost in 1999 with Jimmy Glass’s famous 95th minute goal for Carlisle. The club find themselves with a debt of around £2 million. They have been in a Creditors Voluntary Agreement since January 2003 but now the administrators (Begbies Traynor) have sent a letter to the club’s shareholders saying they will petition for a compulsory winding-up order on Scarborough FC unless they receive a valid appeal within fourteen days. The final paragraph of the letter says that the club’s directors intend to complete their footballing fixtures for this season but the club won’t take part in competitive football in the 07-08 season. www.bbc.co.uk/northyorkshire/local_radio/

That's terrible news, hopefully AFC Scarborough will rise from the ashes. It's looking quite rough for some clubs in Conf North, with Moor Green merging with Solihull Borough at the end of the season and Lancaster being in administration.

...and maybe a salutary lesson that automatic promotion to the Football League isn't a passport to the promised land.
Scarborough were the first, but they and some of their successors struggled to find their feet at the higher level and ended up back in the non-League game with their finances in a mess.
