Yes, the only way is up! At least until 3 May. I think it's fairly clear that the squad we have at the moment is weaker than the one we had for most of last season. And then we only finished 14th. So, unless we strengthen the squad, we're going to stay in or around the relegation zone. We'll all have our own ideas about the players we need. I'd suggest a big centre forward to take some of the pressure off Warren, a wide midfielder who can put in some decent crosses, and an experienced defender. I'm not saying the right players are easy to come by, but we can all see what the alternative is. Why is that then?

OK this may be a little different but there is a potential lesson to be learnt. Euro 2004. Greece were winners with possibly one of the weakest squads in the tournament. The manager worked out what strengths they had and played to them, and built up a big team spirit. I can't believe we have the weakest squad in the division, we have a lot of players more than up to BSS standard. You are spot on, Andy, absolutely spot on. We can talk tactics and who should be playing where all day and all night if we wish, but I am convinced that the problem in the main is off the pitch, and the effects those problems have once the players are on the pitch. Just an opinion, but could it be that Mr. Hazel is a better tactical coach than he is a people manager? You could be the best coach on earth, but if you can't motivate your players then you won't win games even with world class talent. You could have the best players in the world, but if they can't be bothered to make the effort or don't think they're good enough, then they will not win games. I hesitate to quote Kevin Keegan when speaking on a serious note, but he was right when he said "a hell of a lot of football is about psychology." I think that's our problem at the moment- there is nobody to coach the players in the psychological sense. We need someone who is good at team building and motivation. It might sound like a pansy thing to do, but it is incredibly important. If you don't believe you can win, then you will NEVER win, because what's the point in trying? If it's obvious you're trying your best, then you'll have egg on your face when you lose, so why try your best? Then you can say you could have done better. Game tactics alone are nothing without the right attitude, nothing. I've learned a bit about this sort of thing from some management courses I've been on (in fact I once put together and led a team building course for my own staff team and it worked a treat), and I personally would like the following questions answered: Do our players believe they can win games? Do they truly have pride and respect for the club and the fans? How much do they want to win? How much does Sutton United mean to them when they go home at night? Why are they playing for Sutton United? Is it because they really want to play for Sutton United, or is it because their mates are there and they can have a laugh? How does winning make them feel? Do they feel proud that they have accomplished something great for the rest of the team and their supporters, or are they not that bothered? When we lose, how do they feel? Are they not that bothered, or do they feel they've let everyone down, or do they feel motivated and determined to change things? How much does it feel like a TEAM, from the inside? Do they understand the difference between a group and a team? Are they working for and with one another, or are teammates just there to pick up the ball if something goes wrong? Are the players made to see their PERSONAL strengths and areas for improvement? Are they given time-oriented targets to work towards in terms of those development areas? If so, how are they rewarded for reaching them? How are they made to see their strengths? Are they given personally specific opportunities to play to those strengths? How is discipline managed in the side? Is there more to it than nominal fines? How is can't-be-bothered attitude managed? One player with this attitude can kill EVERYONE's team spirit, so what steps are taken to avoid it? How are players rewarded for giving their all?

You can see the body language on the pitch is not right and you can feel that almost resigned feeling to defeat coming from the terraces. I heard some half hearted chants on Saturday but all with no real belief so I think as supporters we need to make a bit more noise and get behind the team. You either sack or back your management and as supporters our job is to back'em other decisions are made by the board not us.
I firmly believe we have a decent squad with good players and that we can and will get out of it if everyone pulls together.
I am not sure who said they thought about not going if we are too be this bad, but the point about support is its unconditional and is needed twice as much when you are bottom then when you are top. I have to admire Maidenhead fans for sticking with their team and seeing them promoted last term.

Blimey Rupert thats a bit heavy, having said that you make some good points, maybe you could be right about Ian,but I dont think Mass is the answer either because his record as a manager is not good either, there is know doubting Ians coaching skills, but it does appear the players find it hard to be motivated,I can only speak about issues that Bradley was involved in under Phil Dunne in the youths and reserves and Phil certainly left know stone unturned, and most of the time the results were there for all to see.now I know we are talking surburban and youth football, but point being the players loved playing for him thats my point.Good coaches dont always make good managers,I know Andy K said that we have been in this position before, but I cant remember Sutton being bottom for many a year(By the way Hello Andy ),I think we have missed Matt Gray and Tony Quinten also and we certainly have not replaced them, but we are also leaking goals, now I am not saying the back line are at fault because if the cover is not there in front of you, then you have problems,I think Ian needs to pick his best side in there best position and stick with it for 5 games or so,and then see where we are,if its still looking bad then changes in all areas need to be looked at.Anyway good luck for the weekend and Suttons loss( RYAN PALMER ) is Bradleys gain.See you all sometime.

I want to add 2 things...
1) sup·port·er [suh-pawr-ter, -pohr-] –noun 1. a person or thing that supports. 2. an adherent, follower, backer, or advocate.
Thats us that is!!
and 2) Sallycats post has to be one of the best i've read on here in a long time, and with some of the brilliant posts we've had on here thats impressive. Sal, keep going, it could be one of the best things to happen to this club in the last few years. I, for one, are right behind you (see her other post for more details)

Millsy. I know that was tongue in cheek and that, but my interests are 100% with the club. I want this team to start winning. Whatever it takes, I'm prepared to give it.

I think Sal is offering to use her expertise in assisting the team. This is the same as anyone involved with the club offering to assist in other ways. We have the decorating team who are good at painting and other volunteers who assist in other ways, some even financial, Millsy getting his company to sponsor the club is a good example. At the moment anything that could assist the team to improve should be tried, after all the professionals do it.
If Sal is willing to try to help in this way, and give up a lot of her own free time, well done to her!
