20 minutes to go and we were the team most likely to score playing some really attractive football. However a breakaway goal down the left and a quick second for Cambridge dented our confidence. If we had got the second that we deserved before Cambridge scored i believe we would have gone on and won.Its a funny old game!

Dented our confidence. A total and utter collapse. We were at fault for 3 or the 4 goals (i didn't see the 4th as I was having a piss). Cambridge offered nothing at all in the first half, and we were playing well. And then the famous Sutton self destruct button was hit.
The worst thing about it was for the first 60 odd minutes, we were the better team, playing some great football and playing some good football.
And we lost 4-1. I'm not sure how much more of this I can take. FA Cup next week, which we should win. At a canter. I don't care how we are playing we have the players to win it. Its that simple. Its not even expectation.

Believe me Andy the 4th goal was given to them.Pestle the last defender was on the half way line when he lost the ball and they just ran through and scored!

Not sure it makes me feel any better but this from the CCFC forum:
To use the most common football cliche, its a funny old game! That was by far our worst performance of the season and yet we get our biggest win! 60-65 minutes we were dreadful and Sutton missed a hatful of good chances. When your down at the bottom, your luck seems to suffer too. Then Midgley scores a screamer out of nothing and them a minute later Gash scores a deflected 2nd and we start to play well again. No doubt 4-1 flattered us but is lovely to get a big win so who's complaining!
Surely we got to take something from that first 70mins?

I agree with os. We HAVE to take something from the first 65 mins. I just hope its not false hope. I actually felt physically sick at the end of the game today.

Oh dear this really is turning into a disaster. As a long distance Part time supporter nowadays I feel a bit embarrassed that the only game we have been to we actually won when the hard core fans suffer endless defeats. Is there a problem in the camp that has fractured the team? I know when you are at the bottom confidence is low but we are leaking goals at a frightening rate and by the sound of things today we simply collapsed which suggests players are giving up far too easily. I know its stating the obvious but we really only have about another 6 or 7 games to turn this around or it will be relegation this year.

Gutting, totally and utterly horrible. Without doubt we were the better team for the 1st 70 minutes, and than dispair. Every man on that team was playing really well, Lewis took his goal well from a good Nick Greene corner, and we could of had a couple of more before the break. Started the 2nd really well, and were unlucky not to put the ball away. And then one goal and we collapse. A sad day

In my opinion we were all over them first half and lost our way second half and it was a matter of time before we conceded!!! We dominated in midfield but lost it completely second half, I can't put my finger on exactly where it's going wrong but it most certainly is, confidence is at an all time low and the light at the end of the tunnel doesn't exist. I'm hoping these 7 day approaches are for Christiano Ronaldo and John Terry or we are deep in trouble, very concerned Woodford are only 2 steps below us, seeing as we've struggled against Casuals, Egham and Walton from that level recently.

I am gonna repeat what I said last week, we need a consistant striker, we do not convert our chances. A good striker will do wonders for the teams confidence and if I were Haze I would be looking now, its the key to winning and the confidence we are looking for!

I think this was the most depressing performance I've seen from Sutton at this level. (And I haven't missed many!)
For an hour, without exactly playing brilliantly, we were in control and looked well capable of holding on to the lead that Lewis's header from a corner had given us on 11 minutes. Cambridge looked poor. And then, in the final 25 minutes, we just fell apart. We cleared two corners in quick succession. Then they got another. Warren won the ball, ran to the touchline - and then surrendered possession, and they went forward and scored. Then they got another almost straight from the re-start. The third came after we made a hash of defending a low free kick from out on the wing. And the coup de grace came in injury time as we pushed up and got caught on the break.
We've now won just two of our last twenty league games. Time for some hard questions, I think.

The F.A.Cup game, yes maybe we should win but you can also add Chipstead to the lower teams who have beaten us in recent years,a win would be good but as someone said on earlier threads pre season we played nobody of note and everyone was raving, well surely no disrespect to woodford surely there nobody of note, but with Eastborne and Weston coming in our next two games where will we be,Eastborne unbeaten and weston in the top 7/8 if we dont pick up points from those games we could be adrift and in big trouble, its not looking good and 2 wins in 22 that speaks for itself.I dont know what the answer is maybe the management can answer that one.?

Yesterday, I was accused of being a miserable git this season but is it any wonder? 5 points from 10 games & we have only played two of the so-called decent sides so far.
Yeterday, was very much like Eastleigh for the first 60 mins but we didn't get the second goal (& boy were there chances to do so).
Haze's request for experience certainly hit home. The first goal should have seen the ball in their half not back in our box & then well as said above, the team collapsed.
That's Cambridge, H&Y & Maidenhead we've lost to & these are the the sort of teams we simply must beat to get to safety (we did last season).
I can see nothing but a long hard struggle now, but the players have to take something from the first hour of yesterday & realise that the potential is there, it just needs to last for 90 mins!

Oh dear. As has been said we were the team more likely to score for the first hour, but two missed golden opportunities by Watkins plus a few other decent chances not taken left you fearing the worst. When Warren got the ball from a clearance out on the right we were screaming for him to run at the defender into the open space, but tried to turn inside and was disposessed. The resultant pass by their defender was into the path of a forward who hit a terrific shot past Gareth. From that moment it was almost inevitable that we would lose given our history this season. The deterioration to a 4-1 defeat was compounded late in the game when Pestle, as the last defender, tried a carbon copy of Warrens move and was also disposesed and left trailing behind the Cambridge forward who slipped the ball to his colleague to score. The perfect scenario for a miserable trip home!

Have just been on the Cambridge City site, and watched the video of the FOUR Cambridge goals. I think Christmas came early for Cambridge.
